CS Reid Headshot

CS Reid holds an MFA in Writing & Critical Theory from Otis College of Art & Design and her M.ED in Cross-Cultural Teaching/English from National University. There is an absence of middle age literature that inspires adolescents to want to write their own poetry and develop an interest in supporting the literary arts. CS Reid's Plucking Poetry From the Air fills that gap.

The literary work of CS Reid has appeared in diverse publications. Most notably are: Poems-For-All, The Truth About the Fact: International Journal of Literary Nonfiction Anthology, Monkeybicycle, Blue Fifth Review, Shadowtrain, Apt, and Raven Poetry: Online Poetry Journal. She has also authored the chapbooks Walking Near the Precipice (Lily Press, 2007) and Intonations Heard in the Desert (Gold Wake Press, 2008). She is a freelance writer, educator, and composer/musician in Los Angeles, CA.

Calliope doesn’t have an easy time waking up in the morning—which means she’s often late to school, a fact that doesn’t escape Mrs. Rutherford or any of the sixth graders in Calliope’s first period class. Mrs. R, as all her students call her, is teaching the class poetry writing and invites them to participate in the First Annual Shining Voices Poetry Festival. Who will win the top prize? Will it be Calliope, who writes about natural wonders, or Miranda Michelli, the smartest girl in the sixth grade?
