David Turnley Boyd grew up on Chicago's South Side, and from a very early age
exhibited a desire to write, having written his first story at nine years old.
While attending St. Ignatius College Preparatory and the University of Illinois
at Chicago, David displayed a voracious appetite for reading, and in particular
was interested in authors Stephen King, Agatha Christie, Richard Matheson and
Edgar Allen Poe.
Falling Down, though not named so at the time, was actually written for an English class taken in college, and was based upon a nightmare he had many years ago. Though the original work was incredibly raw, it had potential, however the desire to develop The Story into a complete piece of fiction was not realized until several years later.
While on vacation in San Francisco during the spring of 2001, David met with good friend Michael Thomas Tower, a highly talented playwright and advocate of small stage theater. After reading several of Michael's published works David remembered The Story he'd created and decided to develop it into a larger piece of work, aptly naming it Falling Down, given the recurring importance of the nursery rhyme London Bridge is Falling Down.
Once published Falling Down garnered rave reviews from readers across the country, and was considered one of the top 100 self-published books by the Writer's Digest Magazine in their 13th Annual Self-Published Book Awards. The book was described by judges as having an 'imaginative plot' and 'plenty of twists and turns and unexpected happenings.' The book didn't win a major prize, but David used this positive feedback as an incentive to continue developing his skills as a writer, leading to his second project, titled Mystery, Malevolence & Murder ' a collection of thirteen spine-tingling short stories that feature ordinary characters dealing with extraordinary, and at times frightening, circumstances. This book not only promises to keep your fingers reaching for the following page, it also is part of a concept that links with Falling Down and his upcoming work, Ubiquity ' the third and most terrifying installment of the series.
David continues to work on developing new ideas while gaining exposure as a
player in the mystery/suspense genre, and presently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
