Writing under the pen name “Ms. HeartBeat” social researcher and author Deborrah Cooper has been positioned at the forefront of the dating and relationships field since 1993. She operated a successful singles events club and produced/hosted a Bay Area television show for four years before launching AskHeartBeat!, the first site on the web devoted to Black and interracial relationships. A dynamic, memorable speaker that holds no punches, she is a uniquely positioned authority on Gen-X, the war on women, interracial relationships, and other controversial social issues affecting black men and women.
Her controversial article entitled “The Black Church: How Black Churches Keep African American Women Single and Lonely” exploded onto the web in the fall of 2010, and single-handedly caused a firestorm on blogs and radio shows nationwide. Deborrah’s third book “The Black Church – Where Women Pray and Men Prey” soon followed. This book expands upon the original premise by setting out in detail the many ways men in leadership positions at black churches abuse their power, harming black women and children in the process.
Deborrah also produces and hosts The Date Smarter Not Harder Relationships Talk Show, a lively and entertaining internet radio podcast. Going where other advice gurus are afraid to tread, Deborrah bravely addresses topics such as “Settling vs. Compromising – Should We Settle for Mr. Good Enough?” “Low Self Esteem in Partner Selection,” and “Get a Clue – Your Man is on the Down Low!”
Recent media and publishing credits include CNN, FOX TV, BET, Ebony, Essence, Jet, Black Enterprise, the Tom Joyner Morning Show, the Michael Baisden Show, Keepin’ it Real with Al Sharpton, the Dallas Morning News, Yahoo.Com, and dozens of other print and broadcast outlets.
She resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her daughter and two pet turtles.

Black churches were once the cornerstone of the Black community and looked at as a source of guidance and strength. Indeed, the war for freedom waged in the 1960s battle for civil rights was born within the walls of Black churches. But that was then, and this is now. The pews of African American churches are filled with women, many of them lonely single mothers. These women come to church to be spiritually uplifted, but that is not what happens. Instead, twisted Scripture is used by unscrupulous men to manipulate and control them. Church is where black women are being preyed upon sexually, emotionally and financially. Are most pastors in black churches nothing but pimps smiling from the pulpit instead of from a Cadillac?
