Douglas S. Reed is a Brooklyn based screenwriter/novelist. Born in Queens, New York, Dougs early travels as teen and young adult took him to such places as Greenwich, CT and Syracuse University where he received a degree in Communications Management from the prestigious Samuel I. Newhouse School of Communications. Upon graduation, Doug journeyed off to Los Angeles where he was initiated to and gained experience in the motion picture industry. While on the West Coast, Doug worked for Walt Disney Pictures/Touchstone Films in Burbank. At Disney, Doug was involved in the marketing and publicity of such hits as DOWN AND OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS, RUTHLESS PEOPLE, OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE, and THE COLOR OF MONEY. With his return to New York, Doug worked as a freelance Script Analyst for New Line Cinema and Vision Media/Greyhound Films where his duties included reading and evaluating literary material for the screen. Seeking to realize the inception of his own company and thereby get involved in more personal and independent minded film and literary projects, Doug created Kataza Films and, by extension, Kataza Books. The establishing of this company banner has resulted in the following screenplays all currently in development and various stages of financing: THE DARK SOUNDS OF SUNRISE As indicative of all of Mr. Reeds writing efforts, GARDENS CORNER represents the authors desire to tap into the richness of Afro-centric stories, thereby enabling his audience to experience through his dramatic works such universal themes as love and compassion, redemption and liberation. |

Garden's Corner - a contemporary African-American tale.
Garden's Corner is a heartbreakingly real and insightful novel that captures the
imaginative spirit of Little Speedy Copeland - a "near-crippled" Brooklyn teen -
who embarks on a journey to a small southern town where he hopes to find and make peace
with his best friend and the violent episode that involved them both.Garden's Corner is a
story with many voices. Hopeful, joyful voices of the young. Somber, world weary voices of
the old and wise. And yet, amid it all, it is Little Speedy Copeland's whose rings out
loudest. With language that is clever and funny and addictive, our young hero spins a tale
mixed with pain and pleasure as he seeks to share with all his heartfelt desire to
overcome not only physical paralysis, but the paralysis of human spirit as well. What we
see pass before the eyes of Little Speedy Copeland and what we learn about him and his
environment, makes for compelling and thought-provoking reading.
