WINNER of the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work - Debut Author [Shirley Strawberry]

"[Shirley is] one of the kindest, most spiritual people that I know. She will admit when she has a fault, and that makes it okay for me to show her mine. She laughs at me. She laughs with me. She has cried with me, all of it, but it's truly because she cares as a person. And that caring, sharing, good-hearted perspective is exactly what you will find in her book THE STRAWBERRY LETTER. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I've enjoyed sitting next to Shirley over the years."

Eddie Levert, lead singer of the classic soul group the O'Jays, and his son, platinum recording artist Gerald Levert, realize that African American fathers and sons have gotten a bad rap for far too long, and they want to help set the record straight.

In I Got Your Back, which will tie into an album of the same name, Eddie and Gerald put their hearts and souls on the line and talk about their failures, concerns, fears, and triumphs as father and son. With a powerful message of reconciliation for broken families, Eddie and Gerald explore the themes of fatherhood, male bonding and male-female relationships.

I Got Your Back will not only empower men to renew their fractured relationships with their children and themselves, but will also provide women with a much needed look into the interior lives of men that they've rarely seen. Eddie and Gerald not only take ownership of their mistakes and shortcomings as black men, but they also shout about the special bond that they share as father and son. I Got Your Back captures Eddie and Gerald Levert's candor and wisdom, reflecting the fullness of their lives after the cameras are turned off, the music stops, and they step out of the spotlight, man to man, brother to brother, father to son.

Eddie Levert is one of the founding members of the pioneering 1970s soul group and 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The O'Jays. He lives in Las Vegas. Founder of the chart-topping group Levert,

Gerald Levert released his first solo album in 1991, and in 1997 formed LSG with Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill. Gerald has also written and produced songs for many musical artists, including Barry White and Patti LaBelle. He lives in Cleveland.
