About The Poet...(from
1999)
As far back as I can remember the urge to write has been in my SOUL These feelings have been spiritually guided by our ANCESTORS... I write to reveal the messages trapped in my soul. I write as a testimony of the durability of my people The voices of many speak to my soul I am just another VESSEL that has been govern and shaped to deliver the messages from the REALM of THE SPIRITS... Let he or she who has an ear, hear and pay attention to what the spirits have to say... My inspiration have come from the voiceless who are either afraid or don't know to express themselves... I write because it is part of my LI FE...

DO YOU KNOW ME???
By Malik Canty
My teachers were many; JESUS, GARVEY, ELIJAH,
SOJOURNER, MEDGAR, HARRIET, GWEN,
MALCOLM, KING...
DO YOU KNOW ME??
When I was little the only accepted NATIONAL theme
SONG I ever heard was "GET ON BACK IF YOU
ARE BLACK, sung by a group called THE
ENFORCERS.
DO YOU KNOW ME??
I represent a tired majority who is always fighting for
DIGNITY AND EQUALITY...
DO YOU KNOW ME??
I don't carry the AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD or
have a fifty thousand dollar job, could that be the
REASONS WHY LIFE IS SO HARD.??
DO YOU KNOW ME??
My forefathers was call PHAROAH my MOTHER was
call QUEEN they removed me from the CRADLE of
CIVILIZATION made me build other NATIONS, gave
me a NEW HOME called PLANTATIONS...
DO YOU KNOW ME.??
They BEAT me until I FORGOT my TRUE NAME,
they took my clothing and replaced them with CHAINS... DO YOU KNOW ME?? DO YOU KNOW ME??
I sure as hell dont!!
