Maryann Reid is one of the rising stars in the literary
world, and has established her own niche as a relationship expert and
purveyor of socially relevant issues that are impacting young
African-American women and popular culture. She is a regular guest and
relationship advisor on nationally syndicated radio shows like NPR’s Fresh
Air, The Michael Baisden Show and The Wendy Williams Experience. She has
written for Glamour Magazine, Black Enterprise and other major publications.
She has also appeared in profiles in The New Yorker, Essence, CNN, NBC
Nightly News and ABC NEWS 20/20.
As of March 2010 Reid has published five books, and her third book, Marry Your
Baby Daddy, (St. Martins Press, Sept. 2005), which was optioned by Holly
Robinson-Peete and became a landmark event catapulted her to national
prominence.
Marry Your Baby Daddy helped establish Reid as a brand addressing the unique
life issues affecting young, educated black women between the ages of 21-34.
Although the book was a fictional and riveting story of three sisters who
must marry their baby daddies in order to inherit 3 million dollars, Reid
interviewed hundreds of couples, many of them urban professionals with
children to find out what their goals, concerns and issues were concerning
their relationships. In light of the research she had done for her book, and
as a tool to develop a platform, Reid launched and produced an event in 2005
entitled, Marry Your Baby Daddy Day™ in New York. She has successfully
produced the event, with the lucky couples
receiving a six figure all expenses paid dream wedding. In her native
Brooklyn community, Reid has affectionately been referred to as the, “Oprah
of Brooklyn,” for “bringing black love back in style.” For more go to www.marryyourbabydaddy.com.`You

Before obtaining her MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Miami,
Reid was invited by USATODAY to write a novella for the acclaimed Open Book
section of their website. In Jan/Feb 2001, her series, "Single Black Female"
ran for several weeks and attracted a whole new audience to her already
popular first book, Sex and the Single Sister, which Publishers Weekly said:
“…..taps into the zeitgeist...the black woman's Sex and the City ...”. In
2003, Reid wrote Use Me or Lose Me, a spin off to Sex, which was published
by St. Martins.

When their unassuming Grandma June dies, Giovanna, Keyah, and Fatima are
shocked to learn she had saved a small fortune and has left three million
dollars to them, her granddaughters. But there’s a catch: each sister must
marry the father of her children no later than six months after reading the
will.
Piece of cake, right? Wrong! Each sister has a complicated relationship with
her “baby daddy.” Giovanna, a successful lawyer and a proudly independent
woman, has no desire to marry Douglas---even if he makes her breath catch
when he walks in the room and is a wonderful dad to their daughter. She’s
got a feeling that Douglas is keeping secrets. Keyah’s boyfriend, Jag
slipped a ring on her finger years ago but seems content to stay forever
engaged. And Fatima’s on-again, off-again relationship with Dune is filled
with more ups and downs than a roller coaster. So why would Grandma June
want her granddaughters to marry these men? Because sometimes Grandma really
knows best. The clock is ticking. Will it be a countdown to wedding bells or
disaster?
