Michelle Donice

Michelle Donice was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She earned her undergraduate degree from Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida, received a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and a Ph.D. from The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida (Go Gators!). She teaches English and creative writing, and lives in Florida with her husband and children.

Michelle was raised by her mother, a beautiful, smart woman who had her in college but never gave up on her dreams (she now holds a doctorate degree). Michelle credits her mother, three aunts and godmother for teaching her to be emotionally strong, self-reliant and creative, and to always seek God first.

Teaching is Michelle’s dream job, and she loves discussing literature and teaching students how to express themselves through writing. There are many authors who have impacted her life, but her favorites include Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, Toni Cade Bambara, Zora Neale Hurston, Gloria Naylor, Pearl Cleage, Terri McMillan, J. California Cooper, Eudora Welty and Kate Chopin.

Michelle wrote THE OTHER SIDE OF THROUGH after hearing so many women talk about marital issues, but it took a few years for her to put pen to paper. Her most difficult challenge in writing the book was staying true to her characters’ stories, and not succumbing to the pressure of censoring things based on what people would say or think. Michelle stayed true to the story her characters wanted her to tell, and she now looks forward to talking about these issues with her readers and supporters.

Jessie Winters has it all: the perfect house, a loving husband, an adorable little girl, a career and all of the outer trappings that signify a rich and blessed life. But underneath it all, she’s missing something, a thing that she can’t quite put her finger on, but a something that gnaws at her picture perfect existence and exposes the deep cracks beneath her surface.

As Jessie grows increasingly dissatisfied with her marriage and her life, she has a chance encounter with Marcus Demmings, a handsome stranger who captivates her and causes her to risk it all when they begin a steamy and intense extramarital affair that makes her question the life she’s been living and whether she should leave it all behind.

But as the affair progresses, Jessie questions whether the satisfaction she is seeking can be found in the arms of her lover and the potential of a new beginning, and she must confront her past to find the courage to move beyond her artificial life and into a world where she lives on her own terms.

What remains to be seen, however, is who will join her on the other side.
