After years of physical and mental exploitation and voyaging over intercontinental waters way too many times, Rose Thorn finally flees her native Jamaica for good to hide out in Brooklyn with her daughter. Rose believes she was dealt an evil hand in marriage because she was a high school dropout, teenage bride and mother. In her quest to realize her dream of pursuing a college degree, she is reunited with her soul mate, Calvin Jones. Rose is ready to divorce her husband, Donovan, but is she really ready to marry Calvin? Forced to return to Jamaica, Rose finds herself trapped in a devastating situation that could jeopardize a lifetime of happiness with Calvin. Rose quickly realizes that in order to make a comeback she must turn around and go back to the place where it all started, the place where she first believed, the place where trouble had come and uprooted her. Runaway Comeback sizzles with secrets, payback, and redemption. Set against a backdrop of rolling hills in Jamaica and the streets of Brooklyn, the storyline is thought-provoking and thoroughly enthralling with true-to-life characters and situations. In this quick-paced sequel of suspense and mistrust, Sandra Ottey paints a spellbinding story in her tell-it-like-it-is writing style.

Read An AALBC.com Review

“The characters are engaging…a good read for this first-time effort.” —Akilah Monifa, AALBC.com

A shocking, engrossing story about domestic violence, infidelity, and a woman's fight to re-claim her right to decide her own destiny. The pages flare with dramatic twists and turns.

Rose Thorn is a high-school dropout who struggles with her husband's perpetual infidelity, spousal abuse, and his malicious endeavors to keep her subservient by robbing her of her God-given right to decide her own future. As the abuse escalates Rose takes matters into her own hands and makes decisions that sends her flying over international waters to save her and her young daughter's lives. Laverne Fine, a talented cosmetologist, struggles with her doubts regarding her lover's identity and nationality. She grapples with her fears of the reasons why her lover's Brooklyn-based mother is adamant in keeping her son's identity and nationality a secret. Wendy Arnold, a well-respected Brooklyn-based College Professor is crumpling under the stress and strains of her long-distance relationship with her Jamaica-based high school sweetheart, Miles. In the express lane to middle age she wants to marry and bear children. Her lover, Miles also wants to marry Wendy and start a family, but there's one big hurdle: While winging back and forth between Jamaica and America the two had become successful in their respective careers; and neither is willing to uproot.

'Set in Mandeville, Jamaica, and Brooklyn, New York, the storyline deals with issues such as spousal abuse, infidelity, a woman's right to decide her own destiny, and the stresses and strains of the immigration laws thrust on relationships and family life. But the real reason for writing the story was to inspire high school and college drop-outs to pull themselves up, brush themselves off and get back on track to realize their lives' goals and aspirations.'
