    Paperback Description:

In the year 2015 there’s this saying, ’when frogs grow feet.’ The meaning behind this phrase is similar to ’a snowball’s chance in hell’ and to that of ’when hell freezes over.’ In jail and with nothing better to do, Malcolm George was leaning toward naming his firs novel ’when frogs grow feet’ but so far hadn’t made a firm commitment to any title… ’When Frogs Grow Feet’ (or WFGF for short) is the next ’Great American Novel.’ Exposing the human condition—it paints a broad stroke of human frailty in the vein of such predecessors as ’Catcher in the Rye,’ by J.D. Salinger and the works of Henry Miller; in particular, some readers ’may see’ a resemblance to Miller’s ’Tropic of Capricorn’ as WFGF lays claim to a sexual appetite that might conjure up that controversial work. Celebrating sexual intercourse, from its kinky, outrageous manifestations to its profound impact on the human psyche, can be found harpooning its way throughout WFGF…In WFGF the morally contentious issue of abortion is promulgated through the existence of ’Un-aborted’ babies (or UABs for short). The character, Godiva Jones, is not a typical UAB instead she stands out as a ’problem child.’ She’s a girl that when we first meet her, is on probation for a string of petty thefts. As a child that ’was not supposed to be born’ the reader gets to know ’her purpose in life.’ We see Godiva as she comes to ’hate’ on her real name, which is Keisha. Other ’relationship’ issues share the limelight with the Un-aborted, notably ’the war between the sexes.’ Sexual relations between Malcolm the male protagonist, and Vanessa, who is a local entrepreneur and proprietor of several high-end boutique shops, has its ups and downs. Vanessa represents feminism in its ’triumphant stage’ as women in the year 2015 ’runs the show.’ Men feel marginalized, are resentful. Whereas Vanessa is naturally a feminist, Malcolm on the other hand is a ’masculinist’ and a member in good standing with the ’International Brotherhood of Steele Pandas.’ WFGF is told mostly from Malcolm’s point of view, but his opinion is often derided by his many women friends. While Malcolm and Vanessa battle back and forth over who will be the ’alpha’ in their relationship, the mostly accepted sentiment of the day is that women are no longer the underdog in society; men are…or at least think of themselves as underdogs. To fight ’the feeling’ organizations like the Brotherhood began to proliferate in order to defend ’men’s rights.’ The mega issue surrounding Mr. Miller’s ’…Capricorn’ was ’first amendment rights.’ ’The Biggie’ in ’Frogs…’ is abortion. The ’solution’ is the advent of ’Un-aborted babies.’ ’When Frogs Grow Feet’ is G. Louis Jackson’s second work of fiction. He is also author of ’Natives of Detroit,’ a collection of short fiction.
