Its time again for the Harlem Book Fair and Uptown Art Festival 2001. Last year, CSPANs BookTV, The New Times, the Daily News, Time Out New York, the New York publishing community. and thousands of avid readers joined us in a historic celebration of books and American Culture.
At a time when African American participation in reading is at an all time high (witness Oprahs reading club), QBR The Black Book Review, the national review periodical, TALA (The ricana Literature Archives), and the Community Board 10 Arts and Culture Committee are collaborating to present the annual Harlem Book Fair and Uptown Art Festival 2001.
This high profile venue becomes part of the revitalization of Harlem as an American cultural and literary Mecca- The highlight of the Harlem Book Fair will be panel discussions, performances by spoken word artists, author readings and signings, musicians, storytellers, fiction and non-fiction writers, and childrens book authors, and a walking tour of literary Harlem.
QBR s commitment to the Africana community is rooted in the deep belief in the vitality, talent, and importance of the emerging literary artist. The highly regarded QBR, called the African American book review of record by its admirers, serves as the perfect sponsor for this event. TALA serves as the not-for-profit co-sponsor of the Harlem Book Fair- QBR and TALAs annual Harlem Book Fair will present emerging writers, spoken word artists and performers to an enthusiastic public community. A full-day program introducing diverse ideas and innovative forms of expression, the Harlem Book Fair is important for the Harlem community- Awareness in reading, literacy, education and positive role modeling are just a few of the benefits of the Harlem Book Fair and Uptown Art Festival 2001.
The event is free and open to all. Men, women and children of all ages who participate will enjoy memorable experiences. We look forward to your participation and support. Join us at the Fair!
