BETWEEN ME AND YOU - SAYING GOODBYE TO A SEVEN FIGURE BOOK DEAL!

New York Times best-selling author Tavis Smiley takes the literary world by the teeth as he saunters away from a seven figure deal in a mainstream publishing house and launches his own imprint Smiley Books. One of the authors is Princeton professor, academic, scholar, author and public intellectual Dr Cornel West, author of 'Race Matters'. Smiley and West engage in thoughtful, passionate Off The Page debate. They discuss the business of integrity versus the business of economics, taking editorial control, who really effectively markets black books and striking out in a bid for literary self-determination.

Off The Page highlights the Literary virgins - the first time writers from both the self-publishing world and the mainstream publishing world that have lost their literary virginity and lived to tell their tale. Previous first timers include Stacey Patton author of That Mean Old Yesterday; Randy Kearse author of 'Changin' Your Game Plan'; Hayden Horsham author of The Power of My Pen; Min Jin Lee author of Free Food For Millionaires.

First Timers features mainstream published authors, self-published authors and a range of genres including memoir, fiction, and non-fiction.  From the airwaves to the web screen, watch as Esther Armah talks childhood, surviving war, landing in fashion, managing modeling and the politics of black beauty with Sudanese refugee turned supermodel, Alek Wek on her first book ALEK.
