Akilah Monifa is a lesbian of African descent who is a freelance writer
and independent journalist. She is also a media trainer/public relations
strategist at the Independent Media Institute's SPIN Project (www.spinproject.org)
and the features editor for Arise Magazine (www.arisemag.com).
She lives in Oakland, California with her partner, Ruthie, and their
daughter, Isabella.
