The JAX Urban Book Festival (JUBF) is an annual celebration of literature and culture founded by acclaimed author Dr. V. Brooks Dunbar, “Dr. V,” and DREAMWEEK INC., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit fostering social progress and community engagement inspired by Dr. King’s vision. Held each January as part of DREAMWEEK JAX, we showcase Jacksonville as a hub for arts, culture, business, and social progress. We welcome celebrated authors and book lovers from across the country. JUBF supports the growth of creative talent in our community. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and attendees, this festival remains free and open to everyone.

In its seventh year, the 2026 Sunshine State Book Festival “Brings Readers and Writers Together.” 100 authors will showcase their books while several activities will celebrate America’s 250th Birthday with cultural events inspired by “From Pirates to the Present: 250 Year of Literature in Florida.”

In a bold new approach to preserving, celebrating, and sharing African American history, Rescuing History Inc., a nonprofit, and Sula Too Publishing announce the launch of the Rescuing History Authors Tour — A Rolling Symposium, a multi-state journey featuring authors, educators, and cultural leaders traveling together to historically significant sites across the Southeast.

The immersive tour transforms a charter bus into a mobile:

• Learning lab
• Bookstore
• Storytelling studio
• Community gathering space

The initiative takes history directly to the people who lived it and the communities shaped by it.

The North Texas Teen Book Festival is the largest library-run book festival for young people in the country.

Produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities (VFH), the largest of the 56 state (and territory) humanities councils, the Festival is a program of the Virginia Center for the Book, an affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

The Festival is the largest community-based book event in the Mid-Atlantic region and has attracted audiences of more than 20,000 for each of the past thirteen years. We have presented a captivating list of authors, ranging from international bestsellers to topical specialists to debut authors. Programs range from traditional author readings and book signings to children’s programs and hands-on workshops. All programs are open to the public and, with the exception of a few ticketed events, the majority of Festival programs are free to attend.

The Oxford Conference for the Book brings together fiction and nonfiction writers, journalists, poets, publishers, teachers, and students for three days of readings, lectures, panels, workshops, and social events that celebrate the written word.

The Venice Book Fair and Writers Festival is a small, unique program hosting writers teaching writers on Friday night, and authors selling and signing their books to the public on Saturday. All proceeds from the Venice Book Fair and Writers Festival go to Venice Heritage Inc., the 501(c) 3 fundraising arm of two historic sites in Venice, the Lord-Higel House, currently under restoration, and the Venice Museum and Archives expansion project.

The Festival is a day-long event that unites readers and writers alike. Author presentations are held indoors while outdoors the Festival grounds are active with book sales, signings, children’s story time and learning projects, family activities, and a technology area. Food trucks offer a variety of eats; special tents feature live music and recipe demonstrations by cookbook authors. The large Festival Marketplace offers a lively setting for booksellers, publishers, literary-minded nonprofits, and local artists and craftmakers.

In most recent years MiraCosta College has been the host of the Festival in the North County San Diego. This year [2025] we celebrate 71st event with the participation of local authors and organizations.

The Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD) celebrates diversity in literature by promoting diverse authors and stories in Brampton, Ontario—one of Canada&rsquos most culturally diverse cities.

The Annapolis Book Festival is one of the premier community events in the region. Every year more than 3,000 people attend this free community Festival that celebrates the beauty, power, passion, and excitement of the written word. The Annapolis Book Festival brings nationally renowned authors to The Key School in Annapolis, Maryland, to discuss their books and the craft of writing. The Festival also features children's activities, live music, refreshments, and new and used book sales.

Festival Day will be a full day of in-person events, from literary fiction and non-fiction discussion panels to talks and activities for children and teens.

The ThrillerFest is an annual conference of the international Thrilller Writers. This organization was created by several 2005 bestselling authors in order to bring thousands of writers, readers, publishers, producers, editors and agents together to promote and support thriller everywhere.

Texas Remainder Expo (T☆REX) is a wholesale show open only to trade customers and not open to the public. It is held twice a year in the fall and spring.

We wanted to provide a place that was affordable for attendees, successful for exhibitors and buyers, and most importantly brought our amazing book community back together in person. Texas Remainder Expo (T*REX) started in Dallas, TX in May 2022. This in-person wholesale book show was the first hosted in the US since 2019 that focused on bargain, overstock, and remainder publications.?Ever growing, we now welcome gift, packagers and new publication exhibitors to offer a larger variety of products in one place for our wholesale buyers.

GAB Fest is the only tri-county book festival in Austin that focuses specifically on local small-press and self-published authors. There will be panels, activities, signings, and so many books for sale. We are expecting ninety writers from Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties. These authors were selected through an application process that was free and open to the public. The writers will be selling their own books at the festival, and they will keep all the profits. This event is completely free for everyone involved.

Queen City Book Fair (est. 2016 co-founders Quisha Dynae and Shmel Carter), warmly invite you to their fair! All local avid readers and anyone interested in stimulating literary appetites are called to join in our latest contribution to literacy!

The Children’s Africana Book Awards (CABA) are presented annually to the authors and illustrators of the best children’s and young adult books on Africa published or republished in the U.S.

The first Author Awards were presented in 1992 as a small event held in Brooklyn, New York to recognize those authors and publishers that made significant contributions in the writing and publication of quality books for and about people of African descent. That year we honored Gloria Naylor for Bailey’s Café and New Authors of the Year Barbara Neely for Blanche on the Lam and Barbara Summers for Nouvelle Soul. We gave a publishing award to Beacon Press for their work in publishing authors of color. We were delighted when they all showed up to accept their awards. That was the beginning of a GOG tradition. The annual Author Awards event has traveled the United States from east to west as well as outside the U.S. to Jamaica, West Indies and Toronto, Canada.

Beginning in 1993, the one-night event became a three-day weekend where chapters meet and take care of business issues and celebrate the winning authors. It's also an opportunity for members to meet and reconnect with their literary sisters from all over the country.

Each year winning authors are selected from our reading list based upon votes from each Go On Girl! Book Club chapter for Author of the Year and New Author of the Year. They are then invited to receive their awards in person at the annual Awards Ceremony. GOG members and guests have had the honor of awarding in person to Pearl Cleage, Bebe Moore Campbell, Walter Mosely, Jill Nelson, Valerie Wilson Wesley, Diane McKinney Whetstone, Lawrence Hill, Daniel Black, Isabel Wilkerson to name a few.

This flagship event is one of the ways of expressing our deep authentic respect for Black literature and authors, reinvigorating our literary sisterhood, and providing a platform for new literary talent to emerge.

Nantucket Book Festival celebrates its 9th year in 2020. They feature a line-up of award-winning authors and local and regional talent. They take center stage, representing genres fiction, poetry, history, journalism, politics, and memoir. Attendees enjoy author presentations Thursday-Sunday, also featured in the garden are storytimes for children. Most events are free to the public.

Where Stories, Art, and the Spirit of FIFA 2026 Unite!

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of global black experiences. Our new Schomburg Center Literary Festival expands our long tradition of championing authors of African descent from across the globe and publications that celebrate Black history and culture. The day-long book festival will feature exhibitors, readings, panel discussions, workshops and more for all ages, from prose to poetry, comic books to young adult novels, fiction and non-fiction.

Each year they deliver a series of fantastic events both across Brighton and online globally, all happening during the UK’s Independent Bookshop Week, where writers from underrepresented backgrounds are the main event and diverse audiences can see themselves reflected. A space that gathers together authors, poets, illustrators, musicians and other creatives from the UK and around the world for a book festival like no other.

The Bronx Book Fair will partner with the Bronx Youth Empowerment Program. Backpacks with supplies will be given to students. Join with community for an afternoon of fun, games, food, awards and music. This event is free and open to the public.

In its eighteenth year [2024], the Austin African American Book Festival is a community-focused event that invites some of the greatest literary talent of our generation to engage directly with readers to foster creativity, activism, and positive change.

There really is something for all ages to experience at the Southwest Florida Reading Festival. Everyone enjoys the multiple stages with the celebrity authors who share ‘inside scoop’ about their latest books or what makes a story idea click for them. National Book Club Conference Foundation, Inc., is a literary organization founded by author Curtis Bunn that, since 2003, executes one of the premier annual literary events —referred to as “Literary Bliss” featuring African American authors and readers from around the country. Hundreds of book lovers receive unprecedented, intimate access to the talent that creates the work they enjoy and appreciate … and discover new authors with compelling books.

Black Writers Weekend expands nationwide this year, bringing its celebrated literary festival to six U.S. cities. Alongside the flagship Atlanta event held the first weekend of August, the festival will host pop-up experiences in Los Angeles, Newark, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Dallas.

AALBC.com’s Founder, Troy Johnson, was named Literary Activist of the Year for 2017.

The Black Authors Festival @Sag Harbor is a nationally celebrated in-person event, recognized by USA Today as one of the Top Best New Festivals in the Nation.

In August 2025, the Town of East Hampton officially declared the month as Black Authors Festival Month, honoring the festival’s mission to celebrate Black literacy, combat the banning of books—particularly those written by or about Black voices—and advocate for stronger legislation to protect the freedom to read.

Nestled on the scenic East End of Long Island, in the historic village of Sag Harbor, the festival stands at the crossroads of heritage and progress. Sag Harbor holds a profound place in Black American history—long revered as a year-round haven for Black writers and a cherished summer retreat for generations of families.

Against this backdrop, the festival brings together renowned and emerging Black authors from across the nation to:

• Celebrate literary excellence.
• Amplify underrepresented voices.
• Strengthen the cultural importance of literacy within the Black community.
• Foster meaningful dialogue and cultural exchange.

The Black Authors Festival @Sag Harbor is more than an event—it is a movement to uplift stories, safeguard history, and inspire future generations.

The Harlem Book Fair is the United State’s largest African-American book fair and the nation’s flagship Black literary event. Held annually in Harlem, NY, the Harlem Book Fair features exhibition booths, panel discussions, book sales, and workshops.

The Phillis Wheatley Book Awards are presented in conjunction with this event.

An annual literary festival, the first of which took place in 2011.

Since 2012, Read My World is the international literature festival of Amsterdam. Going beyond the commonplace, Read My World explores the boundaries between literature and journalism, between here and there and draws attention to everything in between. Next year’s edition takes place in October in the Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam North, with a special focus on journalism, literature and stories from Black USA.

The Dahlonega Literary Festival is an annual celebration of books that takes place in March. Situated in Historic Downtown Dahlonega, the festival continues to grow and become more delightful as the years go on. Ours is an intimate festival about books and authors with a mission to promote interaction between readers and writers in a relaxed, informal environment. Visitors have an opportunity to meet and interact with the authors. In addition to attending speaking events and book signings, attendees can have lunch with their favorite authors at a local restaurant.

Past featured authors include: Frances Mayes, Diana Gabaldon, Terry Kay, Deanna Raybourn, Joshilyn Jackson, and many more. Where else can you see, have conversations with, and even dine with bestselling authors while surrounded by the beautiful North Georgia Mountains.

Celebrating National Literacy Month

The Petersburg Book Fest traces its roots back to the inspiring launch of Resist Booksellers, an independent Black-owned bookstore that opened its doors in the heart of Petersburg, Virginia in 2022. Founded by a family of passionate bibliophiles and community advocates, Resist Booksellers sought to create a space where diverse voices could be celebrated and where books could serve as a tool for empowerment and social change. The bookstore quickly became a cultural hub, drawing in readers, writers, and dreamers from all walks of life.

The Black Authors Festival @ATL Harbor Sneaker Ball on the Vineyard is a premier fusion of culture, luxury, and purpose, where literary excellence meets elevated style. Set against a stunning vineyard backdrop, it celebrates Black voices, legacy, and community through storytelling, connection, and transformative impact.

The South Dakota Humanities Council celebrates literature, promotes civil conversation, and tells the stories that define our state.

The Kansas Book Festival, featuring Kansas-connected authors from across the country, will host a number of authors with ties to Washburn University.

Meet acclaimed authors and guest speakers visiting our famed arts colony for three days of free events, including readings, interviews, conversations, and the Rose Dorothea Award presentation.

The Mississippi Book Festival, a nonprofit founded by literacy advocates, launched in August 2015 on the State Capitol grounds and continues to draw thousands to its annual “literary lawn party” and book lovers’ celebration.

The Brooklyn Book Festival is the largest free literary event in New York City, presenting an array of national and international literary stars and emerging authors. One of America’s premier book festivals, this hip, smart diverse gathering attracts thousands of book lovers of all ages to enjoy authors and the festival’s lively literary marketplace.

The Brooklyn Book Festival is really more than a week of events which culminates on “Festival Day.”

The Albany Book Festival, established in 2018, draws thousands of book lovers from across the Capital Region and beyond to an intellectually stimulating and dynamic daylong event on the University at Albany uptown campus that promotes literacy and fosters a love of reading among all ages.

This annual fall festival features bestselling authors, panel discussions, book-signing sessions, online workshops for aspiring writers, and areas dedicated to young-adult and children's books. Regional authors and poets join in open mic sessions. Dozens of authors, bookstores, publishers, and literary organizations will be featured online.

Started in 2004, The African American Literary Award show is the brainchild of Yvette Hayward. The show celebrates and uplifts Black literature.

An opportunity for interested readers to connect with authors, and other book enthusiasts. The purpose is to promote reading and literacy.

The Morristown Festival of Books celebrates the power of the written word to challenge, transport and transform us, while bringing together our community in conversation.

Modeled after successful book festivals in other communities throughout the world, the Morristown Festival of Books brings together acclaimed authors with readers and book lovers.

The Writing Sisters Summit was created in 2018 by Best-Selling Author Nina Foxx as a community for writers of color to come together and share what they have learned about the craft and business of writing and as a vehicle to mentor less-experienced writers on their journey to become published authors.

The Southern Festival of Books: A Celebration of the Written Word^SM is a three-day Festival celebrated each year during the second full weekend of October. It is free and open to the public. No advance registration or tickets are required. All seating is on a first-come basis.

The Festival annually welcomes more than 200 authors from throughout the nation and in every genre for readings, panel discussions and book signings. Book lovers have the opportunity to hear from and meet some of America's foremost writers in fiction, history, mystery, food, biography, travel, poetry and children's literature among others.

Baku Book Fair exhibition is an outstanding event that offers an opportunity for its participants to set the tone for publishing in the region.

It is an ideal platform for engaging with consumers, increasing brand awareness, sharing local and international experience and ideas on how to develop the book business in our country in the digital age.

The World Mystery Convention is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization which holds an annual convention in honor of Anthony Boucher, the distinguished mystery fiction critic, editor and author.

Bouchercon (2019 is the 50th Year Celebration) is an annual world mystery convention where every year readers, writers, publishers, editors, agents, booksellers and other lovers of crime fiction gather for a 4-day weekend of education, entertainment, and fun!

It is the world’s premier event bringing together all parts of the mystery and crime fiction community, and is pronounced [bough’•chur•con]. The first Bouchercon took place in 1970 in Santa Monica, California. Recent Bouchercons have been held in many cities across the United States.

The National Black Book Festival (NBBF) is an annual event, sponsored by Cushcity.com, the world’s largest African-American retailer online. The event attracts a wide array of authors, publishers, book clubs, libraries and individual readers from the Southwest U.S. and nationwide.

The festival was cofounded by author and entrepreneur Gwen Richardson and her husband Willie Richardson.

Black Book Festival is a showcase for African-Caribbean writers, publishers and booksellers.

Since its inception in 1974, Toronto’s International Festival of Authors has welcomed more than 9,000 authors from over 100 countries, including 22 Nobel Laureates and countless other award winners.

IFOA presents the finest international novelists, poets, playwrights, short story writers and biographers, and provides Canadian writers with an internationally recognized forum in which to present their work.

Incorporated in 1986 as a non-profit organization with a mandate to cultivate and advance the cause of literature, IFOA is home to a weekly event series (September to June), the annual International Festival of Authors (October) and ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers with Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™ (May), presented with the Ontario Library Association. IFOA also runs Toronto Lit Up, a three-year programme supported by the Toronto Arts Council (TAC) that helps launch and promote the work of local authors.

In 2006, IFOA introduced its touring programme, IFOA Ontario, which now visits communities in numerous cities and towns across the province.

The African Canadian Book Fair is hosted byIntercultural Mosaic! whose mission is to promote the culture of Francophone Afro-descendant communities in Ontario and to create a platform for exchange across Francophone Canada and the international Francophonie.

The St. Pete Reads! Literacy Festival is dedicated to entertaining, engaging, and educating children through literature.

The Texas Book Festival (#TXBOOKFEST) celebrates authors and their contributions to the culture of literacy, ideas, and imagination.

The Texas Book Festival was established in 1995 by Laura Bush, a former librarian and an ardent advocate of literacy. Along with Mary Margaret Farabee, founding co-chair, Mrs. Bush created a task force to plan a book festival to honor Texas authors, promote the joys of reading and serve to benefit the state’s public libraries. The first Festival took place at the Capitol in November 1996.

The signature event has evolved into one of the premier literary events in the country and takes place in and around the State Capitol in Austin, hosting about 250 authors each year. More than 40,000 book lovers of all ages attend the Festival annually, enjoying author readings and presentations, panel discussions, book signings, cooking demonstrations, live music, local food, YA authors, children’s activities, and exhibiting vendors from across the state. While remaining an important showcase for the work of Texas authors, the Texas Book Festival hosts important writers from all over the world and has earned a national reputation for the quality of its programming and its appeal to readers, authors, and publishers alike.

The Mosaic Literary Conference fosters a collaborative space for individuals interested in literature, education, and the arts. MLC plays a crucial role in promoting creative thinking and knowledge sharing within the community. By inviting educators, community and arts organizations, as well as the general public, the conference facilitates a diverse and inclusive exchange of ideas.

ReadOut: A Festival of LGBTQ Literature is a program of the LGBTQ Resource Center, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in Gulfport, Florida. ReadOut was founded in 2018 and is an inclusive event that showcases literature written by, for, and about LGBTQ community.

The Rancho Mirage Writers Festival is a world class gathering of writers, thinkers, and people contributing to the intellectual vitality of our time — “Coachella for the brain.”

The Savannah Book Festival is an annual event, free and open to the public, in celebration of the written word and its role of improving the human expeirence. Our mission is to promote reading, writing, and civil conversation.

The African American Children’s Book Fair is one of the oldest and largest single-day events for children’s books in the country. It features nationally known bestselling authors and illustrators, many of whom have won some of the most prestigious literary awards including the American Library Association Coretta Scott King Award. These authors and illustrators have produced some of the best books of our generation.

Parents, caregivers and educators are very supportive of the African American Children's Book Fair because they understand that children who read outside of their normal school course work tend to make more responsible decisions about their lifestyles.

The fun-filled afternoon is packed with activities that promote the POWER and JOY OF READING. Authors and illustrators will make presentations and sign their books. The Literary Row will distribute book-related promotional materials free of charge. Our Educator's Book Giveaway will also distribute brand new books to teachers and librarians for use in their schools.
