John Henrik Clarke: A Great and Mighty Walk (DVD)
Available Directly from AALBC.com!

A Must for every home. Click to learn more about the great scholar

This video chronicles the life and times of the noted African-American historian, scholar and Pan-African activist John Henrik Clarke (1915-1998). Both a biography of Clarke himself and an overview of 5,000 years of African history, the film offers a provocative look at the past through the eyes of a leading proponent of an Afrocentric view of history. From ancient Egypt and Africa's other great empires, Clarke moves through Mediterranean borrowings, the Atlantic slave trade, European colonization, the development of the Pan-African movement, and present-day African-American history. Produced and narrated by Wesley Snipes. Directed by Saint Clair Bourne.

Out of Bounds: Coming Out of Sexual Abuse, Addiction, and My Life of Lies in the NFL Closet by Roy Simmons - Book Review by Kam Williams
http://reviews.aalbc.com/out_of_bounds.htm

There was this constant worry in the back of my head about being found out for liking men. Id venture to say that the stigma of homosexuality among young black men is three or four times greater than it is for young white men. Because I was a football player, folks just naturally assumed I was straight I was living a closeted life in my own little closeted world.  Nobody knew. I doubt anybody even suspected.
Excerpted from Chapter 5

Forced into Glory: Abraham Lincoln's White Dream by Lerone Bennett, Jr.  - Book Review by Kam Williams
http://reviews.aalbc.com/forced_into_glory.htm

Forced into Glory represents the fruit of Bennett's labors, and this 652 page biography sets the record straight, exposing the real Abe Lincoln, wart and all.  Virtually every myth gets exploded along the way, as the author uncovers his subject as an insensitive bigot who, for instance, advocated peace while waging a war of ethnic cleansing on Native Americans.

Living Black History: How Reimagining the African-American Past Can Remake America's Racial Future by Manning Marable - Book Review by Kam Williams
http://reviews.aalbc.com/living_black_history.htm

Since race itself is a fraudulent concept, devoid of scientific reality, racism can only be justified through the suppression of black counter-narratives that challenge society's understanding about itself and its own past. Racism is perpetuated and reinforced by the historical logic of whiteness, which repeatedly presents whites as the primary actors in the important decisions that have influenced the course of human events.

There is considerable historical evidence that undermines the coherence and legitimacy of that master narrative of American history. Why do the great masses of white Americans remain unmoved?"
Sampled from Chapter One

The Vanishing Black Male - Film Review by Kam Williams

Designed with every demographic in mind, The Vanishing Black Male is a  remarkable movie not to be missed by young or old, by male or female, by black or white or anyone with an interest in a frank discussion of the future of African-American men. This critic's pick for the Best Documentary of 2005. (Directed by Hisani DuBose)
