  3. Tananarive Due speech transcript, not perfect - Thank you so much to the LA times - the other nominees were incredible to say this this is an honor is an understatement back in 2014 I got a phone call from the florida state attorney's office And learned that my great uncle robert stevens died in 1937 at a notorious - school for boys, a reformatory in florida and after attending a meeting there with my father freedom rider john - due jr I knew I had to write about robert stevens but i also knew that my story would need a different ending , and ghost The novel took me seven years, to write, thank you so much to my husband Steven Barnes, I love you so much, also a great writer, for keeping me on the path, my editor-, my agent donald- , my father for helping me manage the jim crow judge's chamber, my sister joanna- , and my late mother patricia - due, for her courage as a civil rights activist. If I didn't know what should happen next in my book I just had to ask what would mom had done. There are countless robert- stevens in the world. And too few of them get a happy ending. so as we face the horrors in our world, in our cities, in gaza and elsewhere. And where there's true life racism , homophobia , islamaphobia, and antisemiticsm, let us honor the courage of young people as the primary creators of change throughout history and the lesson my mother taught me , activism takes many many forms, as the late octavia a butler said, the only lasting truth is change. thank you very much

  6. @Milton I put what I placed on your blog... will you follow me on aalbc? Many artist found themselves adding a different aspect of their operations during the covid19. I admit I have been slow to embrace escapism but I didn't feel the same sense of loss during 2020-2022 as many others. Glad you are going in another path. On a literary note, when I think of "American Fiction" the film or the book it is from "Erasure" from percival e. I think a great contrast exist between writing in a new genre to placate to an old negative environment opposed to writing in a new genre to embrace a new positive aspect in one's environment. good luck:) as always

  8. Mother's Watch Your Out For Your Babies Well It's obvious that you cannot be there all of the time but this short clip reminds me of how important it is though that the true fathers are around their own babies. If you notice, the lion pulled his instincts initially. Then he looks around for the lioness first... https://youtu.be/VLc33kJE60w What power. He barely touched the cub.
  9. National Black Cheerleading Championship 2024 I've watched this entire program at least 5 times! ... It's an addiction. Every single group was insanely awesome. I've posted 4 of my favorite but again, you have to see it to believe me.... They were all incredible. This video is NOT the actual championship but preliminaries. [1] Crown Athletics won in their category. They were much more dynamic in the finals! It was crazy. The short girl with the leg brace is the captain. Towards the end, she told the group to breathe and catch their breathe. They had no break between routines. [2] William Fleming was one of my favorites but honestly, North Meck and more were just as awesome. They were in the tumbling category. [3] Chowan was another of my favorites. They were non-tumbling. [4] The Virginia Union Rah Rah--Wow! Just Wow! They won! They were non-tumbling. This the entire championship competition! IMO It's worth the time!
  10. How exciting! Me too! I was going to post this pic but I see you already posted it! Morgan Price, a Fisk University gymnast, won the 2024 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championships all-around title on April 12, 2024. West Chester University Athletics They do not have their own gym but hopefully they will soon!
  11. There are a couple reasons but 1) white folks can never be on the bottom and 2) money. Drug addiction fuels the economy in many ways just like cancer and every other incurable disease or condition.
  12. Oh Yes! I forgot about the flooding in Dubai too! It also occurred on April 17 [i.e. April 16 @ 6:00 PM]. It is said that this area usually gets only about 4 or 5 inches of rain in a year on average. But in one day a huge amount of rainfall occurred recently. Oh yes, it is also interesting to note as well that this is the day, April 17, of the Biblical deluge. It was recorded to have happened some 4000 years ago! So, even though this sort of science is not highlighted in the western world, it would be good to regard the ancient script in how the moving stars also are tied to this historic date. The Star of Bethlehem came into our solar system on this very day about 2000 years ago! Interestingly too, and for weeks now, the incredible planet Jupiter is in the sky and nearby the comet Pons-Brooks. I believe that we are living in an amazing era and are experiencing some incredible phenomena! ============================================================================= Storm dumps heaviest rain ever recorded in desert nation of UAE, flooding roads and Dubai’s airport The state-run WAM news agency called the rain “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.” That’s before the discovery of crude oil in this energy-rich nation then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States. 13. Survival mode has become status quo. Socialism in the form of a UBI (Universal Basic Income) is inevitable as technology wipes out more jobs in America. Of course, we already have an idea of how UBI will be distributed based on the current system.
  14. Black Americans have survived not thrived as a whole. Whenever Black people have succeeded they were eradicated. Power only concedes to a greater power. One possible way of creating more fairness is socialism. However that has been demonised. When you say socialism most people think communism. Without understanding that socialism is both a political and economic system. The following are examples of socialism: insurance; libraries; museums. In fact all government payments are socialist including military expenditures. @ProfD I order for your vision to be realised the population has to be reeducated. Most societies prefer an entertained as opposed to educated populace. This goes back to Rome and is true in the US, which is similar to old Rome.
  15. I hope that AfroAmericans find themselves and realize their true potential and real power. Millennials and Gen Z won't be condescending as it relates to any generation preceding them because 1) they're absorbed in social media and their present and 2) Black history is being whitewashed. No offense intended. I have much reverence for the pioneers who led the movement and paid the ultimate price with their lives. The beneficiaries of the struggle...we need to talk.
  16. @ProfDBesides making demands from America, do you have any expectations from AfroAmericans when it comes to emulating those whom they despise? And - I would hope that those who come after you will be less condescending about your aspirations than you are about the "old AfroAmericans" (who had the gumption to initiate the effort and who fought in the trenches to bring about changes for the better.) Keeping in mind that recognizing those "settling" for the tangible "bait" of civil rights and "compensation" of affirmative action is just as important as glorifying the good intentions of those whose goals were never achieved. The saga for racial justice is a process made up of different stages, and its legacy is a shared one. When crafting this "folk lore" you hope will be preserved in high tech hieroglyphics, the final act rather than ennobling the single symbolic act of heroic intentions, should be an expanded tale, recognizing the reality of those who cleared the path. As an old head, who took pride in the heroes and martyrs of the civil rights movement, I become a little offended at the way younger generations tend to mock our goals and efforts and achievements. LBJ is an example that they and Republican conservatives like to throw up in our faces. But the fact of the matter is, is that we had enough guile to not judge Johnson by what he said, but by what he did: which was to sign a far reaching civil rights bill. So, my dear, keep hoping for the miracle that would silence this cynical old contrarian.

  20. I still hope that Black America will become united in 1) having more love for each other, 2) creating opportunities to build generational wealth, 3) coming up with interests to which politicians can be held accountable, 4) demanding reparations and 5) replacing the system of racism white supremacy with justice. Again, I know its a tall order. But, it's the only way we're going to overcome the racism that affects all of us.
  21. If Africa was allowed to control its natural resources, it would be one of if not the wealthiest continents on the planet.
