I think I have made work that prompted questions that various reade rs or viewers wouldn't like to read or see or deal with \, for various rea sons. I reread your prose and thought to myself. What you mean by \"proble matic' is about reactions. It isn't the artwork that is ever problematic o r generates problems\, but it is the audience that dictates the polarity o f problems.I think of the statues from the roman empire \, fully naked tha t centuries later in the very land they were made were castrated by christ ian clerics.I think about the original screenplay of legend from horsberg\ , film made by ridley scott. In the original screenplay Lilly was raped\, after rewrites that was turned into the dance scene. But when read by the producers\, one of the producers \, a female\, told scott + horsberg\, and I quote \"you can't rape the princess\". Which is interesting to me on ma ny levels. When Jim Brown did a film 1968's the split\, with diahann carro ll\, written by westlake who is white\, jim brown playing the main charact er parker\, who was written white\, diahann carroll 's character\, playing a petty\, working\, pure woman was raped and kiled by a white character. I wonder if lilly was not white would hollywood have minded. But I know ri dley Scott saw falsehood in it\, cause years later when he made the Last D uel in 2021 based on a book by Eric JAge with a design similar to Rashomon of Kurosawa\, the entire plot revolves around a raped white woman in 14th century france who upholds she was raped in public which leads to the due l through the legal system of france at the time. A great scene in the mov ie from an older white female character played by harriet walker proves th is moreso. So ridley scott through his won work responded to the audiences problems of perception so to speak that limited what his financiers would allow from his artistic vision in the past. I just have to add\, in the o riginal screenplay a young unicorn suckles from lilly's unpregnant breast. I think of an early draft of the Last Unicorn from Peter s Beagle\, and in that the unicorn originally was going to be in modern times\, along the h ighway\, unseen by humans as the smoke and filth of the mortal world goes by her\, herself lost and confused\, not knowing if she is the last unicor n and a daze\, as she goes by potentially other magical creatures \, like dragons\, also the last.I think of the original title of \"the girl with t he dragon tattoo\" which was the more appropriate \"why men hate women\" w hich the book publishers tld stiegg larsson to change or changed for him. Disney did not make the black panther films cause blacks and whites love each oth er. disney made the black panther films cause non blacks in modernity\, th e last twenty years\, are comfortable buying tickets to a movie with few n on black primary characters [in Sinners no white primary characters were h eroes so.. time does move] and in modernity\, black people have the abilit y to make great returns on movie tickets as well and buy stuff. so... blac k panther is greenlit. So I don't have an issue with the white power in me dia of the past \, even if it has a financial or communal source of action against blacks or non white europeans. But\, the past created an environm ent where many black people in the usa or elsewhere rarely see themselves in media unless they have\, as i did\, two black parents fortunate enough to provide it growing up. So\, I grew up with high john the conqueror/buck and the preacher/august wilson plays/donald goines books/black poetry /br er rabbit/oscar micheaux before he became more popular or known - while I also heard peter and the wolf at Lincoln Center\, saw gaugin works\, and t apestries from muslim caliphates\, and devo videos. My point being I made the work wanting to add to black DOS literary canon\, a common theme for m e\, I am not limited to that\, but I like it.
