  2. In another conversation @Pioneer1 shared the following: For those who think that's ridiculous..... Look at what happened to brown skinned Native Americans: Native Americans of the 1800s "Native Americans" today. Pioneer's comment struck me, because I have noticed this too. Just a couple of days ago I watched a documentary on the Smithsonian Channel, Battle of Little Big Horn. I visited the site of the battle, for I find what as happen to the indigenous peoples of America incredibly appalling. Interestingly, the "Native Americans" speaking in the documentary all presented as white. Not one looked like the Native American's we see in photos from the 19th century! For you Trekies out there, It was like looking at Klingons from the original Star Trek series and the Klingons in the films -- you are like, WTF happened to these people?! I mean we know what Sitting Bull Looked like: But who the heck is this guy? This always always puzzled me. I mean when you visit a reservation (I recently visited the Navaho Nation), you see people who like Native Americans from the pictures, so I know they exist. But when you go to casinos owned by "Native Americans," you always wonder, well where the heck are the Native American owners? I just assumed they were in the back counting all the money they making... I started reading this book about the Tulsa massacre, Tulsa, 1921: Reporting a Massacre by Randy Krehbiel. Which gave me some insight which supports exactly what Pioneer was describing as "White Supremacists are sneaky." The infamous Trail of Tears ended in Oklahoma. The people who survived the death march were dumped onto land that was not viewed as particularly valuable or even hospitable. Tulsa 1921 goes on to explain, that oil was discovered on this land. Once this happened white men would marry the Natives American land owners. These women would be killed or disappear. Leaving ownership to the white men who ultimately became exorbitantly wealthy. Devils. Oil made Tulsa Oklahoma one of the most prosperous cities in the country. It was home to perhaps the most prosperous Black community, which would later be known as The Black Wall Street. Most adults now know Tulsa was one of the worst, of many American massacres of Black people. Devils. Now if Black people do get reparations in the form of significant financial remuneration. This is of course highly unlikely, but lets continue with the thought experiment: Do we think Black women would be more or less desirable marriage material by white men? When financially successful Black people decide to marry white people, it has to be viewed in the context of our American history.

  3. Deesha has made a limited number of signed copies of her National Book Award Finalist book of short stories, The Secret Lives of Church Ladies. She has shared this on social media, but I could not, in good conscious, not share this information here. These copies will not last long for this first edition, with the AALBC Bestseller seal applied, (the book is already a bestseller for October).

  4. Kristen Welker, you did a fantastic job ! You tried to reign in President Trump who rambled, repeated himself and kept returning to debunked lies and smears against the former Vice President. All Trump did during the last debate is continue besmirching the life and accomplishments of Joe Biden, terribly misrepresenting his positions. It is quite comical that Trump believes it's unfair for citizens call him on his failures. But he has no problem claiming the successes of Barack Obama and Biden are somehow, his. He never had a plan to replace the Affordable Care Act. He still has no plan to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, which is about to get worse. Oh, and all the wonder medicines and the vaccines Pence and Trump keep going on about? No vaccine until the second and third quarters of 2021, according to the head of the CDC.

  5. You are a magician and life is an alchemical working. You have the following elements the physical world, time, mind, heart and intuition. Some challenges involving moving physical objects, like well moving. Some challenges repeat over time. So you use your mind, heart and intuition to deal with issues in time and space. If you can change your perspective, your approach or how you combine the elements you will succeed. And if you don't succeed at your task but it changes you , then you have been more successful in your failure since you have learned to master your moods.

  8. If you are discussing beliefs, traditions and family ties, those have now taken a back seat to a plethora of debates over issues, real or imagined. I don’t think most Black people can avoid being drawn in or being forced to take sides in what some call Culture Wars. I'd advise caution in the workplace if one is around folks from different background and beliefs. We do have a vested interest. Our voices, our opinions and our desires must be elevated alongside those of others. Everyone has their own moral code and for many, this could could be a mix of believing in the freedom to practice a certain religion, taking advantage of those in need, to enjoying a particular lifestyle without criticism all the while being opposed to government aid for the poor. Symbols, historical figures, what’s taught in schools, use of drugs, gun ownership and recognizing foreign traditions and terms trigger many. Even though the proper term is Native Americans, some still derisively refer to the earliest inhabitants of this continent as Indians. We are “Mud People” to many White Supremacists. Despite ample evidence to the contrary, some still believe the worst about Black people. I don't know what the answer is. However, I am pleased such questions are being asked.
