  1. Abrams is playing the long game. Two GA senators is far better for all of us than an state governor. Let's just see what the Democrats do now that they got control of both houses.

  2. A person who is a real quitter does not rise again to triumph. Stacey Abrams singlehandedly delivered Georgia into the Democratic Party's column. And then she engineered the unthinkable: A resounding U.S. Senate victory for a Black man from her state. And the election of a White Jewish man from her state. This gives the Senate to the Democrats. Stacey Abrams was cheated out of the Governorship by a White man who denuded thousands of legitimate Black voters from the state rolls. She did not blow it. If you think she's a quitter, then Black people will take that kind of quitting everyday.

  4. Why you keep saying that Harlem wasn't destroyed? I lived through it. Maybe our definition of destroyed is not the same. This was the Harlem I grew up in. This scene was three blocks from where I grew up. I could have easily been one of those boy. The cases two are carrying are trumpets. Back when public schools had musical instruments they would let you take them home to practice. One time this older kid stole mine from me. I chased him and inexplicably he turned around and retuned it to me, patted me on the shoulder and said he was just playing. I later found out that an adult he knew saw what he was doing. The person knew my mother and my mother told me. She told me never to fight someone robbing you. Of course in the streets it is not that simple. No kid in America should have to worry about getting robbed, when I grew up it was a constant threat. Harlem defined urban decay. It was destroyed Brother trust me.

  10. No, that so-called teacher simply did not care about us kids. He should not have been anywhere near a classroom. None of the guys in the back of the classroom were bad, or dangerous, (again I was one of them) one is a financial supporter of the site today. It is called classroom management and that teacher had no concept of what that is, but again he didn't give a s**t. The idea that gambling and drinking in the classroom was allowed in your school tells me that this sort of thing is probably not unusual at all, and that is depressing. @Stefan you missed what I wrote; I graduated from Brooklyn Tech too I don't think so either, but the Harlem I lived in as an adult with my kids was not the Harlem I grew up in. Black middle and upper middle class people could have ruled Harlem if they chose to do so, but that would have taken organization and commitment from large groups of people and that is something which is in short supply. Harlem is not unique, as I move around the country I see the same thing wherever I go.

  11. Troy, First, thank you for your compliment. They do not just let anyone into Stuyvesant. You have to be the best of the best. So, kudos to you as well. I don't believe sticking it out in a neighborhood with a high rate of shootings and gang violence is the right move. Especially if one has children. When I taught, it was for extra money at first. Then when I saw I was making a difference, I threw myself into it even though I had a steady day job as a Senior Editor. Eventually, I realized that was the profession I should have chosen instead of Journalism.

  12. Delamo. No, I have not read "Faces at the Bottom of The Well." Being an oldster, retired curmudgeon and all, I try to spend my pennies on items that bring me lasting joy. But if you read the book, why does Derek Bell ask Blacks to abandon a misplaced faith in eventual progress? Because there is evidence of this all around. In Obama, in Kamala Harris and MLB owning up to Negro League greatness in a successful, but now faltering Black Business empires. Trump was an easily avoidable setback. If Blacks had not been deceived into believing Hillary was a die-heard racist, this country would have never experienced Trump. And the Black Race could have avoided a serious resurgence of White Supremacist ideals and support.

  14. I am respectful of all opinions and personal views as it relates to politics, religion, and other controversial topics. However, it has been obvious on many occasions that most people are blinded by their own point of view and life experiences. I am grateful for the learning opportunities that I get when I connect with people from different areas and cultures. Although one thing stands true, "people shun you and are turned off" when you are not willing to show and give respect to others (even when their opinion is different than yours). We should be able to share perspectives without being attacked. We should be able to support one another even if we don't agree with one another's philosophy. Different is ok and I embrace it. Being different doesn't mean that I can't learn from you. However, being harsh is an infectious, contagious disease anode don't do rude. Before moving into 2021, assess your environment. You may find that your front door is the one that need to be swept clean and attitude adjusted. People have a difficult time as it is. I want to support those that are team players. I want to collaborate with those that I can trust to be meek. I have met so intelligence here. You all are. Just don't allow your attitudes to supersede the greatness that is within you.
