  1. Neither are black men as interested in Hockey and Baseball, as white men. Baseball has been described as being is too slow and cerebral to captivate the average fan.  Hockey, while fast and simplistic, is also cumbersome and repetitive.   Football is simply a more thrilling spontaneous game, the gains so much harder to achieve, the scores so much more gratifying and spectacular, the teamwork so much more evident.

And never under estimate how women embrace what their men like in order to impress them.

  2. Why does time seem to have sped up?  I hear this from young people as well as old ones how,  lately, time really does seem to fly. (Except, of course, when you're waiting for a pot of water to boil.)

The answer, I suppose, has something to do with the duration of the events which determine the passage of time...

With each passing day, I become more mystified by this thing called "life", mostly because it is beyond words. I am suspended in a vacuum of wonderment.

  3. Chicago activist, Ida B. Wells, journalist, and charter member of the NAACP, much to the chagrin of the men who wanted the females to stay in their place and do secretarial work, protested tirelessly at the risk of her life to keep focus on the lynching of black people in America.  And she did this to the day she died in 1931.

Chicago cherishes her legacy and her most recent honor was having a main thoroughfare named after her. Black women have always been in the thick of the battle.

It really doesn't take too much of my time.  I'm not running around with a picket sign and a megaphone begging n8gglets to unify. 🤣

Like a minister, I drop jewels in real-life conversations with people I encounter and keep it moving. No tithes or offerings required.😎

@ProfDAnd you do this because you realize that it's more effective than wasting your time beating the dead dog of black unity to death.

BTW, what do you think will be the long term impact on the NFL after what happened to Buffalo Bill's Damar Hamlin?

  5. i can't believe the Republicans are squandering their opportunity to make the most of their chance to inflict damage on the hapless Democrats, but I'm so glad to see them imploding and showing  the world what an erratic bunch of clowns they really are!  Trump's influence seems to be eroding and, best of all, all the right wing detractors who show up on this board, have been proven wrong when it comes to the viability of their party!  🤣

Truth.  IMO, that is one of the most fun aspects of being an adult.😎

@Delano& @ProfD So you guys enjoy the ongoing fruitless quest for black unity, huh? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity.  Addicted people enjoy their drugs and alcohol and gambling, all to their detriment.

    Just depends.

  7. As somebody who has been contributing to this forum since the 1990s, I do think about my "legacy" here since I am in the twilight of my years, doing good to wake up every morning.  and do have serious doubts about making it to my 90th birthday in August.  but, know that I've led a full life and as ready as I'll ever been to pass on.

First and foremost I think about the good ol days when  there was a large crew of contributors, - a real cast of characters!  I miss those fun days, and all my  "frienemies", most of whom have moved on and some of whom I am still in contact with on FaceBook.

Once and a while, I skim through the archives and come across a lot of posts I have absolutely no recollection of having written.  But there is a consistency to my vibe.   I've always been a contrarian, challenging the opinions of others. Always an exponent of the "ad hominem" attacks which, to this day, are a tactic I defend on the grounds that making unflattering comments about an adversary is permissible if the shoe fits and the insult advances the point I am trying to make.  Whatever. i don't imagine i have made that great of an impact on this board. Unless you get points for longevity. C'est la Vie.

When it comes to AALBC's founder and monitor, however,  Troy Johnson,  got better with age.  i salute you ol buddy,

  8. Why strive for something that nobody thinks has a chance of coming into fruition? That's a waste of time. And why  strive for  unity when how  unity is defined  does not conform with how you describe it?  Inconsistency is one reason why there is no black "unity".

It is also "apparent" that certain people's idea of black unity is making the race over in their own image, giving priority to their personal dislikes and preferences, setting themselves up as the ideal prototype.  In addition to institutionalized racism, the biggest obstacle to the dream of black unity is the male ago that originates in a barrel of crabs.

i can't emphasize enough of how liberated i feel since I divorced the black race on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.  No regrets nor guilt about becoming bored with the struggle to compete with white folks for the power they have a monopoly on.   i'm not big on responsibility.  Life is game. You win some, you lose some.

But carry on. it's good practice for confronting the up-and-coming Hispanics. Hola!

@Del   Only because of something that can  be attributed to the surreal warp I am currently caught up in, a curiosity having to do with other worldly guardians....😳  It's great that you are at peace with yourself and have chosen a path to follow. Namaste.

  10. Hello Folks.  Just stopping by to extend Holiday Greetings, and inform  that I'm still alive and kickin', doing OK.

I do check things out here occasionally, hoping to find something that captivates my interest,  (avoiding the verbal diarrhea of black unity's main proponent), grateful for the Pepto Bismo  Kenneth always provides with his insightful observations.

My cynicism, as usual, prevails and I remain indifferent about the "what-black-folks-need-to-do" litany.  In my opinion, black folks are ironically becoming enslaved by racism, aided and abetted by a vocal minority sending the message that unless African Americans are absolved and excused of all wrong doing and rewarded and compensated by being disproportionately represented in every field of endeavor, the debt of slavery will never be paid.  But there's a world of difference between this black narrative and reality because, as everybody agrees, there is so much diversity among people of color that no one group can speak for all.  I also agree with Troy who often suggests that class is really what categorizes.  The politics  of Liberalism and Conservatism  are what polarize. in spite of everything, I remain a moderate Trump-hatin-Democrat.

One reason I am not really upset about the direction toward which the lbgtq movement is taking Society is because unless everybody is everything, there will be no equality. The coming generations will adjust.  They are the future. What say you, Del?

    Back to my cave.

  11. 'Discharged from hospital to recuperate at home after a bout with covid flu.  That was no fun.  Interesting hospital experience, however.  Tended by a flurry of nurses, many of whom were effusive gay men, along with  Hispanic cha-chas, misled by my Spanish first name. Indian and Asian doctors, of course.  Sistas shuffling round, tellin' me, "you gonna be OK, momma."  A very interesting pecking order at this state of the art medical center right around the corner from where I live. Prognosis is OK, all things considered which means my age is a factor. Whatever.

If anybody watched the Girot Awards on CBS last night, as black folk, we should've been encouraged!

Hope everybody  had a nice Thanksgiving. 90 is a lot of months away but, I'm tryin to hang in.  Luv ya all!😚

  12. "Feeling the need" to capitalize the word black is  not a grammatical rule. Essence Magazine,  in particular, obviously feels the need to adopt this element of style  because of its demographics.  The official policy of most newspapers and magazine is to use the phrase African-American when referring  to this minority group and they do not capitalize "black" when it is used as an adjective. Some may opt to capitalize the word Black when it is used as a noun that is inter-changeable with African American.   "Professional" writers who work for publications follow whatever style their employer has established as their standard; not the one they personally prefer.

  13. @Pioneer1the color "black" used as an adjective to modify the  noun "folks" doesn't  need to be capitalized, Dummy.  And what YOU expect has nothing to do with reality, as usual.   The only black people who care about me divorcing the race, are juvenile jerks like you. The rest are sophisticated enough to not concern themselves with what  cynics decide to do.

Yawn. It's boring how you have to resort to stock photographs to try and reinforce your corny attempts at humor.  True wits are creative enough to rely on their vocabularies to convey disgust.

  14. @DelanoThis subject is quite provocative. Language is a tool that has always intrigued me. it is what defines and condenses life, serving as a vehicle for driving it. It also  facilitates the preservation of knowledge and enables  communication between individuals although it does not necessarily put them on the same page.  Then, there's how it is possible to  weaponize language, and how certain words and phrases are loaded with energy that can trigger an effect on people. Consider the word nigger and how much power it exerts over black people when uttered by a white person.  Use of the word love is also packed with potential, able to transform or even heal when declared or pledged.

It makes sense that extraordinary souls could and did convert and preserve their magic in the archives of a script that  reveals secrets. Language is the glue that bonds humanity together. It is divine.

I have experimented with chanting which is inarticulate language, - sounds that simply flow and vibrate and, when paired with intense visualization, can even make images materialize. Music is also a form of language; it speaks to your emotions.

I was also very interested in the reference to mirror magic. I have experimented with it, simply standing in front of a full length mirror and holding a hand mirror up to it.  Looking at the reflection of myself  being reflected in the other mirror where I saw infinite images of myself going on and on.  Eerie. What was on in my mind during these sessions may have also been projected into eternity.

These are things that just came to me to do during the course of living my life. I sorta believe that my interest in the occult may have something to do with my surviving much longer than i should have considering how little attention I have given to preserving  my health and safety. I think this along with  some of the things I practiced with  pyramids and crystals have also contributed to my longevity.

So here I am.  i have no idea why i am still walking around, having changed very little over the past 50 years.  But i grow more weary by the day. And I am adrift in the universe.

    You are my Oracle.

@Pioneer1Pretty much describes your critique of Dave Chappelle's SNL opening monologue.  Dave actually  has nothing to prove or an obligation to justify his sentiments about Kanye and Kyrie, whatever they may be.  And he  certainly requires no advice from anyone because he's definitely his own man and has demonstrated he has staying power.  As a comedian, his goal is to make the audience laugh.  And that he did.

Well, I tried to tell you so many times that Donald Trump was a complete nincompoop, a racist and a super dumbass. But you wouldn’t listen.

WHO beside the  Retrumpican trolls infesting this site disagreed with your assessment of Trump??? The feeling was that the American people would punish the Democrats for inflation, rampant crime and mishandling of the covid crises, and that Right wing Conservatives would capitalize on this at the polls.  I, for one, did not attribute the specter of the red wave to Trump's "greatness".  I, and a lot of others, blamed the Democrats for not getting the priorities together and stating their case better.

I NEVER thought tRump was anything other than an ignorant, dishonest, racist, narcissist fool and that his comeback would be a disaster for the country.

The democrats did not do badly in the midterms.

@TroyTrue.  It could've been much worse. The pundits and the experts don't know what they're talkin about, either. Now the Dems have to figure out what they did right, so they can focus on that for 2024. The Retrumpicans are so bad, even dumb folk know they need to be defeated.  But the country remains evenly divided.

Sigh.  'Wish i could access this site through my smart phone but I can't! So i have to rely on my old out-of-date computer to post here, and this inhibits my participation.  Good thing i don't have anything important to say.
