@Stefan one problem exists, the point of this post from @Troy is the return of ebony magazine who themselves said is going to have a print form. so, me asking if any print based magazines make money when a magazine is being rebooted with a print form by the admission of its owners is , in my view, common sense. I asked Troy as we were debating the strategies for Ebony to be successful, we were not debating whether anyone was ignorant or stating anyone was ignorant about the modern publishing industry.

I buy paper books. I know many who do. But I think paper based books industry will not include retail sales. I think the future of paper based books is in libraries, or with specific communities with publications that cater to them. Yes, I know examples exists of fiction/magazines/newspapers/perodicals that statistically show financial growth or at least stability. But overall I think the paper based book industry while it will grow will not grow in the direct sales way. Whereas the same books in ebook or audiobook, will grow.
So thoughts for all the authors /artists in this group

@ProfD I apologize if my words suggest I am affronted.
-
@ProfD I quote myself
Quotehow do you turn a profit and what is your goal?
Every comment I made in this post concerns the owners of Ebony magazine or the magazine itself. I never said the black rich do not exist in the usa or black people in the usa do not have buying power.
Why did you write
QuoteThere is enough money within the black community to keep Ebony magazine afloat financially. Also, there is enough black wealth that the magazine could be FREE.
I don't recall saying anything suggesting as such. now when you said
QuoteThe major challenge is getting folks to sponsor, subscribe and read it
That relates to my position in each comment in this entry. I think it isn't a major challenge. I think it is the challenge of any magazine. The new owners of ebony will display thier goal. if they are wise they choose a narrow goal.

-
@ProfD so you want Ebony Magazine to be a torch bearer for a communal viewpoint. Ok. I don't know if the new owners have the financial power to sustain that but ok
@Troy I asked black enterprise on twitter, I don't know if they will reply. It seems like they are all digital but may have a legacy paper print version that is closed to new folk.
-
@Troy yes troy, I know some of those magazines. Black enterprise is successful. It has many black people who buy it but it does cater to a specific tribe in the village. I repeat myself, Ebony need to do likewise.

I will enjoy if any actually read the body of this post... I am not asking the question in the title, so please don't answer it.
My prose
The question in the title was asked by someone and I thought to myself, that is not a functional question. Teaching history should be taught wherever it can be. But, a functional question is, what is the goal of education to the masses? I rephrase the question, are black people right to think education gives access to a power more potent than the sword?
At the end of the day, usa history proves that money or education aren't really important long term. what is important is who is willing to kill to get what they want or who is not?
White people were willing to annihilate or enslave many so that they and their descendents could have more than anybody else. Many whites died in that ambition. But, the eventual survivors and their descendents could and do have more than anybody else. That is the blunt truth.
Now to my question, whose answers are the purpose of this post <let's see if any of you read this post well>
I maintain that education is a necessary action in life but does history prove the black community has falsely given education a potency it doesn't have?
-
@Troy each one of those men had many black people who aligned to their philosophy. Is that true or not? If it is not true, then as you say, their philosophical variance is merely individual. If true, then it is a communal issue.
Unity is not organization, they are not the same thing. In the comments sections in this forum most black people , you+ me+ mzuri+cynique, all are unified. we all support this black owned website, but are we organized? no. The key here is the difference between unity or organization. If unity is organization to you then you are correct.
The word agree means to like. The word accept is to take something, whether you like it or not. For this phase in my response. I will use the word accept , in place of your word agreement. Why? Agreement isn't about organization, a thing of the body. Organization is about acceptance. When the irish mob relented to the italian mob in NYC, it wasn't agreed it was accepted. Getting all in a group to like a thing is near impossible. But getting all in a group to accept a thing is mandatory if it is to function positively. To your point, black people whether we liked it or not accepted, the situation under white power. Thus we collated into towns and , proving my point, the second white people allowed blacks in their towns, the exodus of many blacks from our towns. Those blacks never liked or agreed to living side other black people, but they accepted it, under white power. But a strong organization isn't when the body is formed under pressure from outside but when it is formed from balance within, ala the irish mob and italian mob in NYC.
And that leads to my point. You question if enough unity exists. I know enough unity exists. Most black people want better for black people, ala this website's mere existence. But unity is not organization. And that was why I said the better stratagem for Ebony is to focus on fiscally wealthy blacks, all throughout humanity. Yes, most black people, including me and I think you, are not part of the fiscally wealthy black group. But, that group's members have a lot in common. All are fiscally wealthy, thus absent the difficulties being fiscally poor brings. Most, over 90%, have a positive relationship to some whites. Now they do not all speak english, are not all african, but the Ebony magazine can bridge those bounds. My original comment suggested ebony can succeed. But not by catering to the entire village, it must cater to a tribe in it. And why? cause the village in the usa or beyond it is not organized. And never was.
Fair enough, we had a solidarity in the past, but that was under white duress. The future goal, is to see what kind of solidarity we can make without pregnant black women being hanged, without black children being electrocuted for living, without formerly enslaved illiterate black men signing their lives away for bread, without black towns at the mercy of the white towns next to them. Black people being forced side other black people cause all of them are afriad of whites is a solid thing, but I rather black people want to be side other black people cause we want to be. And we have yet to prove that, in the usa at least.
-
@Troy you argue that black people forgot or lost sight of ourselves with the push to integrate as equals to whites, but who was ourselves? Your words suggest a unity or communal organization that did not exist. Remember, Frederick douglass/nat turner/web dubois/booker t washington were in each others lifetime; they did not have similar minds about various questions to the black individual or community. Do most black people want better for black people? yes. But the definition of what that means has never been agreed upon in our community. Sequentially, what you say was a mistake was what many black people wanted. Not all black people, not me, not you or cynique, but in a population of tens of millions, many.
-
@Troy Can you name a financially successful paper magazine today, in the usa?
-
@Troy thank you, I said all forms, I meant all forms of paper based books, pbooks:: magazines on the rack, newspapers, retail paper books similar. Audiobooks/ebooks are always upward. and libraries are in heavy or growing use. So I misspoke:)

Two questions to any print magazine or emagazine are equal to each other while primary, how do you turn a profit and what is your goal?
From what I have read I see little that convinces me they will turn a profit or have a long term sustainable goal. But I can be wrong.
and I mentioned it, maybe I have more information than you know at the moment

@nels I can be wrong but the following comment from you may have been meant for this post
QuoteI'll be brief. As a generalization:
The (Far) Left | historically not Democrats - Political groups who support liberal or socialist policies and the attainment of big government and asset sharing and equality by any means necessary.
The (Far) Right | historically not Republicans - Political groups who support conservative or nationalist policies and the attainment of limited government, individualism and national sovereignty by any means available.
The (Center) Left and (Center) Right - Political groups who support reasonable compromise to promote and achieve goals that are in the best interest of all of the nation's citizens, sans full consensus.
The (True) Right and (True) Left - Political groups who do not support the ultra-polarization of the nation through extremist views that undermine national sovereignty and a level playing field for all legal citizens.
At the moment, black America seems too fragmented and dispersed into factions that have competing interests that do not serve the ultimate vision and goals of the black community, as a whole.
I argue, that historically, barring legal slavery times anywhere in the american continent or haiti between jean jacques dessalines to henri christophe, the black community in the usa or the american continent , canada to argentina, has never been whole or over 90% alike in a deep way. You said at the moment? when was Black America not fragmented with many factions, barring the times I mentioned?

Many black people online tend to have media where they are knockers. It is the way of the internet in itself. But while this post has a title and I began my prose referring to the culture of communication. M agenda is other.
My agenda is the following, a question.
If you had the ability to place a tool to improve communication online, online only, what will it be?
The video below is abou a case between two black entertainers, mostly for entertainment but a warning to any of you who may one day be truly large epersonalities, if you are not already

@Mzuri I see. I hope you have a pedal powered cycle, get a three wheel , you can get two wheels in the front or back, that will help your back stay strong. and you don't have to worry about falling with a three wheel and ... you can do similar tricks with the wheels like on the roller derby after a little practice

Kurt Zouma has led to a question?
in Culture, Race & Economy
Posted
Kurt Zouma is a black athlete. He kicked a cat and made a video of it. Adidas terminated their shoe deal with him.
Years before Eden HAzard a white athlete. Kicked a ball boy and he didn't lose his shoe deal.
Years before Luis Suarez a mestizo athlete. Achieved multiple incidents of biting another player. He didn't lose his Adidas shoe deal and Adidas publicly stated, I paraphrase, they talked and the player comprehends the standards of adidas.
I end my examples that show incongruity.
This question I have in this post isn't about the incidents or the actions of adidas.
If a firm has the right to maintain or destroy a relationship based on a whim or financial assessment or culture or anything it see fit, I pose the following question.
Will the signal of a black owned firm operating in a similar matter, absent any congruency, be the best sign of black empowerment , in a humanity dominated by fiscal capitalism?
