So just as I began to open up my laptop to write a review about yesterday's event (First Read Expo 2015), I was surprised to see such a nice write up about me! Thanks Troy, that was very nice of you. I appreciate the love and support that you do for us as African American writers and the vessel that leads to awareness (knowledge, wisdom and understanding). It was such an honor to be in the presence of my fellow authors, guest speakers, and watching everyone interact and network by sharing their stories through their passions. Thanks again, can't wait for 2016!

Your Presidency
By: JonRenee Author: of Poetic Lyric Verse 1 ©2015
In 2004, I remember hearing a sermon by Pastor Trunell Felder from Chicago praying a prophetic word that, “In 2008, Barack Obama’s voice would be heard, not from his seat in the senate, but propelled in a position of presidency.
Amen…..but men, have tried to bring him down and defame his character in the most disrespectful way. A black man in the white house, we thought we would never see the day….but this day, in my day, have I ever witnessed so much hate.
I felt the pains of my ancestors at the same time the joy that mark the history of this day. His head held high, with his wife by his side, Michelle Obama, with courage that’s unshakeable. His fate became debatable, among the naysayer crowd. You can hear them on talk shows or radio stations that didn’t mind saying the “N” word out loud.
November 4, the votes are in and I can hear my people cry. In the melodies of Sam Cooke, “A Change Is Gonna Come,” and yes it has….but we still have a long way to go. His gray hairs can account for his faith to keep him from being oppressed. Newspapers, headlines, and sold out lies of negativity in the press. He delivers to the nation his presidential speech without nepotism, keeping an impartial nest.
Sacrificing his time, his family, his life, rigorously deciding what’s ethical. Battling, the rightful means to an end. Ignoring the “magpie gossip” of west heckle and east jeckle. His ethnicity is still a fact of laughter to them. Haters never wanted to see him win…but he did again in 2012.
Imagine that…but the guns have been selling faster than the tickets to see the Broadway show “Cats.” Tis the season…but for what reason? Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve? How disrespectful they are to your presidency. I declare civil war or I declare justice. In the system of things, can we trust this? They mock his name, Obama Hussein, Osama bin Laden, Oh my Lord, they are shinning up their weapons to see the day he’s slain.
He continues on like Martin L. King, dedicated to manifesting his dream. Leading by example while setting an example. They may have killed Martin L. King back in Tennessee…but they never killed the spirit of his dream. It continues to live on through President Obama, through you, through me. One love, endless journey, changing the face of history one day at a time through “Your Presidency.”
I declare peace.

After living in a fifteen year, first marriage, nightmare, God blessed me with the man who would show me A whole new World--our theme song. I wrote this poem for him and all the good men who worship their beautiful women.
Loving Him
Being with a man, the only way I can...
This man for me is special and kind. The man I see is top of the line.
He's beautiful, he's pleasant, he's smart and sweet. He's sensuous, he's sexy, the man is complete.
He is always considerate of my deepest feelings, careful never to hurt me--even in bad dealings.
He and I have just the right stuff, I love him so much, I just can't get enough.
He holds me tight and kisses me when I cry. He's beside me at night when my day has gone by.
His smile is that of the brightest sunshine, no doubt in my heart this man is all mine.
He allows me to win all the arguments and fights, even though he knows I'm wrong and he's right.
He loves me, he likes--he says he always will. A thing 'til death parts us is our greatest deal.
He's good to me--he cooks and feeds me in bed. His intentions are sincere, he's even better than I've said.
He gives me great advice to use as I may. This man is the best, what more can I say?
Shirley G. Perry-Church to my man!

Awwwww this was very sweet! Glad you finally found your true love!

Hi, Troy and thanks for the accolades, advice, and adding my book to your upcoming website . I will repost my poem as suggested shortly.
Hi CDBurns, my ISBN was generated via CreateSpace. They have several distribution opportunities at which you can pick and choose. Right now it's exclusive to amazon and amazon uk for the next 6-8 weeks and then available to all offline and online distributors, including B&N. As far as libraries, I've opted out of libraries but can always go back and select it as another outlet when I'm ready. I figure I will wait until my book gets a little older and going into my second book.
The Color of Love
My heart is open.
I am fully receptive.
I am ready for what could be,
Between you and me.
The good vs. the bad.
The happy vs. the sad.
The joy vs. the pain.
The craziness of the insane.
I know you seen me naked…
But not naked spiritually.
I’m willing to bare all.
No matter how big,
No matter how small.
I’m ready to weather the storm.
Together we can defeat.
No matter what may come our way,
Whether hatred or deceit.
To captivate the world.
To overlook our flaws.
To grow together,
Whether we walk or some days crawl.
Or standing over the cliffs of life.
Breaking each other’s stumble,
Breaking each other’s fall.
Together we are a team.
We don’t give up.
We don’t quit.
Remembering our roots,
Humbling us at the seams.
Our Grandmother’s words,
Quilted in our dreams.
Love has become us.
Like the sun that shines… “The Color of Love.”
Over everything,
Over everyone,
Regardless of our past,
Regardless of our short comings.
The light is our guide,
Without it we would die.
From God we can’t hide,
Punishing our pride.
Setting a perfect imperfect example
Adored by the Angels up high.

Hi Shaniqka. I'm JonRenee, I really enjoyed your poem! Great job! I also wrote a poem called, " I Am Alone Not Lonely, don't confuse the two." It also brings you back to the very presence of God which is so important during your alone time and I'm glad you brought that point out. Good luck on your future endeavors !!!

Disconnected
in The Poetree

Hello and thanks for your comment. The title "Disconnected" is my expression on how relationships are nowadays; At least with my experiences. "The feeling of disconnect" and how technology such as texting verses a real conversation is an added addition to ruining that union.
