One of America's most prominent black CEOs quit President Trump's manufacturing council on Monday over Trump's initial failure to condemn white supremacists.

Kenneth Frazier of Merck (MRK) said in a statement: "America's leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy."

Now THIS is a great example of a Black man who stands up for what he believes in and shows an act of courage and bravery.

What he said and did had CLEAR MEANING.

People want to get behind Colin Kaepernick and praise him for bowing down on one knee during the national anthem which is a vague statement with no clear goals to be accomplish.  But here's a Black man who made a direct impact with the bold statment he made against racism.

I think the Black community should not only rally behind this brother and other brothers and sisters who perform similar acts of courage, but we should also MONITOR the outcome and consequences of their actions to make sure they aren't retaliated against for this.

Sometimes when Black folks take actions like this in public, racists don't retaliate against him immediately.
They'll wait a few weeks or even a few months when they think things have cooled down and then hit him with some sort of sexual harassment charge to get rid of him.
So we have to stay on cases like this.

This is what I mean by supporting POSITIVE Black men (and women) and supporting and encouraging positive behavior.

Invite him on Black shows.
Give him rewards.
Even raise money to give him.....yes.....I said GIVE HIM MONEY.

If other Black people in positions of power see him take this stand and see that he's protected and rewarded for standing up for his principles, then others will follow suit and feel more free and embolden to stand up too.

@Pioneer1 Well, Kaepernick is an athlete who did his thing in the arena of his expertise which, incidentally, commanded a large audience.  And, unlike Kenneth Frazier,  Colin didn't wait for a specific event to prod him into taking a public stand. He just  quietly did his thing.  And what waves will Frazier's gesture make, other than to make himself look good? He's not even getting that much publicity.  The "average" person doesn't even recognize his name.  I didn't.

I'm unimpressed. Frazier really hasn't  accomplished any more than Kaepernick and he risked nothing by denouncing racism, just like all  the CEOs on the council who followed suit  because, like Frazier, none of them want to be involved with anything that would damage their precious corporate image and their bottom lines.

Furthermore,  Kaepernick's taking the knee proved to be prophetic, and on  point, putting him in the vanguard of a movement gaining momentum in post-racial America  where  White Nationals are making a mockery of the national anthem, with their Nazi banners and high regard for men who fought to keep slavery and advance white supremacy.

What's-his-name is just a member of the bandwagon everybody is jumping on, in order to distance themselves from an ignorant fool. I also have my suspicions about this guy being appointed to this council by Trump which could mean he was  a supporter of #45  or at least a rich Republican conservative.  Not the type of negro i personally admire.

Pioneer Kenneth Frazier is a captain of industry and clearly a brilliant man.  For a Brother to get as far as he has in corporate America  you can be sure that he is indeed the shit.  But The folks held up in the Black community are not picked by use,or anye like us. Colin is a celebrity so he will get all of the attention until he is no longer a celebrity.

As Cynique implied it was not exactly a tough decision or big sacrifice for Frazier to step down.  He won't get any bonus points from me for that action.

Or.......

One could look at it as Kenneth Frazier being an older mature and intelligent man DIDN'T NEED several incidents to motivate him to take a stand like Colin who decided to act only after YEARS of seeing injustice.

With Mr. Frazier, after ONE negative incident that tested his metal....he rose to the occasion and publically rebuked the President of the United States in the name of honor and principle.

What's-his-name is just a member of the bandwagon everybody is jumping on

Yeah but Mr Frazier was the FIRST to jump on the wagon.
BEFORE it started moving.....LOL.

I don't think it was a tough decision either, he's a chief EXECUTIVE officer and the brother knows how to come to the right decision and quickly.
It was a BRAVE decision though because to dismiss and break ties with a narcissist and egoist like Trump in a public manner takes a lot of courage as everyone knows how he likes to get down with his enemies.

Sacrifice?
Not likely.....but who says you have to sacrifice yourself to be successful or even take a stand?

I'm not a religious man so I don't necessarily see value in the act of self-sacrifice.
I see value in AFFIRMATIVE ACTIONS that directly influence the accomplishment of a particular goal.

If you can get the same things accomplished without suffering.....I say go for it.

Excellent point! I agree 100%. He saw the outrageous and ongoing buffoonery of Agent Orange and decided to act. Trust me, he had to have approval to do what he did. But he stood hard and fast to the rebuke that pathetic rant by Trump Monday. I salute this black man for his immediate and compelling decision not to join the Trump clown car charade.

SMH. 29 year-old Colin Kaepernick didn't just decide to demonstrate after years of seeing discrimination!  He led a naive, privileged life as the bi-racial child adopted by a white couple who are reportedly disappointed by his knee bending gesture.  Kaepernick was just recently encouraged by his woman-of-color girlfriend to embrace his black side and recognize  what blacks have gone through, and to show solidarity with his people.

This man you are exalting had to wait until he was up in his 60s to publicly speak out against racism,  only doing so as an obligatory act, mindful of his role as CEO of a company he didn't want associated with some one who didn't reject white supremacy. There's nothing unusual or courageous about a prominent black man like him condemning racism. And there were plenty of people  on the "reject-Trump's-apologizing-for-Nazis" bandwagon when Frazier expediently scrambled aboard. Get real.  This man obviously has great business acumen  but there's nothing extraordinary or influential about his taking a stand.

And he wasn't even the first man to leave the council.

Tesla's Elon Musk left in June  because as he said,  "Climate Change is Real"....LOL

Actually if you ask me you have to wonder why Frazier agreed to work with  45 to begin with.

I know an argument is to effect policy and make change from within.  But I can't think of a instance when that tactic has ever worked for us.

Originally, I had no problem with people like Jim Brown and other Black folks going to meet with 45.  In hindsight, I see that was a pointless waste of time.  Nothing will change for the collective benefit of the United States until 45 is out of office.

One has to wonder why "sisters" like Omarosa (45's director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison) hang on?  I guess it is just as simple as a perverse need for fame, money, and power--regardless of the cost.

What makes Frazier's move so much more impressive and effective in MY opinion are the two different industries they're taking their stands in.

The sports industry and the business world.

Being rebellious and bucking authority is often seen as a badge of honor among most young people and especially when it's being done by athletes in the sports industry.
It thrives off of controversy and shake-ups.
The sports worlds is FULL of young men who strut around showing the world how strong and brave they are...bravado and cockiness is just part of sports.

But in the more conservative business world, what Mr Frazier did was considered VERY bold and unusual.
Especially to a fellow businessman like Trump who cares so much more weight in the business world than he does in the general public.
Love or hate his policies, Trump is still praised for his business savviness.

So for a fellow businessman and CEO to take this stand and take it in public in such a conservative and reserved industry......that talks balls the size of basketballs.

You're really grasping at straws to defend Frazier who has done nothing to make a difference in the black struggle with his golf ball-sized gonads.  And Trump is not praised for his business savviness! His ill advised opening of theTaj Mahal casino in Atlantic city was a monumental flop. Hillary Clinton outed him as a bankrupt-declaring crook who never pays his bills,  is  beholden to Russian businessmen and considered a joke by Wall Street.

Colin Kaepernick is not strutting around, and his individual protest is picking up momentum as more and more NFL players and teams are following suit.  Excerpts from recent news stories about the story that will not go away.

  • Because Colin Kaepernick took a knee, NYC cops have his back. Law enforcers past and present turned out Saturday in a show of support for him,  and the entire Cleveland Brown Football team recently knelt during the national anthem, and several white NFL players as well as individual black ones have recently come out in support of Kaepernick. His knee bending is very timely in view of how white racist nationalists  calling themselves patriots are showing their true colors.

??????

What's wrong with golf ball sized gonads?

Anyway.........

I'm not hating on Colin.
Again, I'm glad the "young brother" is taking a stand...lol.

But again, besides calling attention to a problem that everyone already knows exists, what exactly is the goal or end game to what he's doing?

When Kenneth Frazier had a problem with his boss or atleast the man who's team he was on.....he didn't just go into the conference room with Trump and take a knee.
Nor did he toss his pen on the conference table and refuse to take notes or give Trump suggestions in some sort of "protest".

.....the man LEFT.

.....he QUIT.

He recognized an injustice and inconsistency that he didn't want to associate himself with and left the entire team all togethe telling the entire world that he will no longer associate himself with a man that racially insensative.

Contrast that with Colin who refuses to stand for the National Athem but CONTINUES TO PLAY THE GAME.
....making money for and entertaining the same White people who are causing the problems he's protesting.

I think he'd have a bigger impact if he lead Black NFL members on a STRIKE to stop playing all together.

Nothing 's wrong with golf ball sized gonads.  It's your reference to the very ho-hum Kenneth Frazier having "basketball sized balls" that's wrong.
