Asian and western culture?

I returned from a trip to SEA last year and I noticed a quite a few differences to where I come from (Vic, Australia). I spent a lot of time in bustling markets and walking around a couple of big cities during my stay overseas, and I actually had a great time there. People were always trying to sell me cheap food, drinks and cloths, everything was well priced and Asian people were always willing to help me. They often asked for a few baht to help them out for their trouble, but that is only a few aussie dollars anyway, so no problem. The sun was always out, it was always warm even in the winter and there was always something to do. There were many bars where the food and drinks were cheap, and even the good hotels were only about thirty bucks a night. The thing that hit me was that people were just a lot more friendly and always smiled, didn't mind having a chat and helping point me in the right direction when I needed a hand going somewhere, which I really appreciated. There were awesome kickboxing shows and the service in the fast food outlets were always top knotch and I genuinely felt like the people appreciated my custom.

One thing that I noticed about Asian families is that when one person needs a hand, the whole family usually lives in the same village and will come over and see what they can do to help. No one gets angry at having to lift a finger, they just do their best to help and get everything sorted. People also usually stared at me a lot, but that was usually because they are not accustomed to seeing white people getting around, so I wasn't worried about that. But a bit of attention was nice, I must say.

Compare that to when I get back home to Vic, and people are miserable. People in service jobs are rude, everyone is opinionated and wants to attack each other over the smallest thing, everyone is more interested in their smart phones and western culture basically sucks. One thing an asian friend of mine told me is that family is sacred in Asian culture, and the parents are revered and the children send money home to help support them and make life easier. Compared to western culture where a lot of families never see each other until someone dies, which is pretty shocking I must admit.

Some parts of my city I can't walk down, even in the broad daylight, for fear of being assaulted by drug addicted thugs, but funnily enough I always felt safe overseas, except for very early morning, but I think that is a given anywhere. I feel like this western mindset is all about me me me instead of we. It seems so ingrained in western culture to be too competitive, which leads to jealousy and nasty people, and in retrospect I see it so much now. We are a country with a very high living standard, but as peoples salaries and living standards grow, their spiritual aspect is diminished and we are left with a hollow society where everyone is for them self.

Do you see any similar differences and if so, why do you think they exist? is it a product of race, religion, upbringing, geography or anything else? I'd love to see some genuine discussion about it.

What you see with people being nice, generous, and heavily family and community oriented IS NOT unique to Asian culture what so ever.
Most African and Native American cultures USED TO be just as refined and comforting until they were conquered and subjegated by Caucasians and forced into a different lifestyle.

Infact, Asians can be quite cold and hostile also when they are put in the right circumstances.
The difference is because there are so many Asians and they have so much more control over their nations and societies than African and Native Americans people's do right now......they have a better opportunity to exhibit more of their true nature and express who they really are.

You don't have to go too far back in history, just 4 or 5 generations ago Black people in the United States were known to be far more generous, morally upright, and family oriented than even Asians today.
What changed was being forced more and more into White dominated society which forces so many Black people to go against their nature and adopt foreign habits to survive or be successful.

When Black people are no longer influenced by Caucasian economics, religious dogma, social norms, and diet......we will be far more generous, peaceful, and exponetially more productive than we are in our current state.

I think you are on to something 🙂

The problem is that it is hard to operate in our current system where the greedier you are the more you are rewarded.  The more you can destroy you "competition" the better you are perceived. If you company can grow more profits buy paying works less -- it is all good.

Black people will continue to be influenced by what you describe as "caucasian economics" because this is the yardstick that we measure ourselves.  This has never served us, but I don't see it changing anytime soon.  When the whole system collapses (it is not likely any of us will be around when it happens), perhaps then we will see productive change.

The subject most recently capturing headlines has been the locating and rescuing of the Thai soccer team and their coach, who were trapped in a cave they were exploring when heavy rains prevented their exit.  For 10 days these 12 young boys were isolated without food or any accommodations, left with nothing but each other to get through this ordeal.  When divers finally located them, and cameras recorded the situation, the most striking thing was how calm and composed these kids were, no hysteria or panic, all of which later contributed to their being able to do what they had to do in being led out of the most perilous conditions by the rescuing divers.( i can't imagine children raised  in America remaining as composed as these boys.)  There was great fear that they would never get out alive because of what was required of these youngsters, none of whom could swim or were familiar with scuba gear.  Yet everybody made it out safe after an arduous trek thanks to the tremendous effort from sources through out the world. (This universal response temporarily renewed my faith in humankind)

I read on FaceBook that the Thai soccer coach was formerly a Buddhist monk, and kept the spirits of his charges up by conducting meditation exercises and leading chants.  Of course,  Christians are taking credit for the "miracle" escape which they attribute to their "prayers and thoughts".

Black folks tend to  look to Jesus for their salvation, rather than relying on their inner strength to lift them up. Their spirit has been broken  but they continue trying to repair it by embracing the religion of their oppressors, looking to the hereafter for their rewards.

There is nothing exemplary about the state of Asian countries in the world today.  They are mostly under the iron rule of dictators.  But their stoic collective consciousness apparently gets them through.

White supremacy endures and it's debateable as to why this is the case.  😶

It endures because the ones in charge rule with an iron fist... and you better not mess with their money!

There will be a movie made about the kids ordeal I'm sure.  It made for perfect the very lucrative "entertainment news" we provide.  Honestly I grew tired of hearing about the story.  But again other more important stories don't lend themselves to reporting like this story.  The individuals were immobile so camera crew could be set up easily, it was good for at least a couple of weeks of infotainment, the story was a cliffhanger, even Elon Musk got involved for a plot twist -- a diver even died during the effort.  Wow.

Children raised in America, truth be told, would not have been placed in that position. We generally don't endanger our little darlings in such a fashion.

I don't know about that.  In the soccer mom culture, exploring a cave is not necessarily considered dangerous.  White people love adventure!

i shed my cynicism when it came to this case.  Yes, the situation was tailor-made for a cliff hanger movie.  But the danger was real and the kids were quite innocent and vulnerable. And i did want to hear the latest progress reports supplied by the media.  I am, however, sick of the media fueled drama in regard to the immigrant chilllldren separated from their paaaarents.  And i couldn't care less about Muslim illegals because i hate their religion and their customs.  I also love having America exposed as the bigoted xenophobic country that Trump has made it OK to be.  😬

I think the key is to have a BALANCE.

I've lived near areas where the "swim or sink" mentality ruled and everyone looked out for themselves or their own interests.
And I've also lived in so-called liberal areas on the West Coast where most people believe in "aultruism" and sharing everything.
Neither extreme serves our people well because both are too broadbased and not detailed enough to address so many of the needs of individual AfroAmericans with our many varying backgrounds and circumstance.

We need enough socialism to make sure no one starves to death and everyone gets proper medical treament; but we also need enough capitalism to punish stagnation and laziness among those prone too it as well as reward hard work and innovation.

There isn't much to debate......

Where is the viable ALTERNTIVE to White supremacy on this planet today?

@Pioneer1Are you willing to concede that white human beings are, indeed, superior to other groups as witnessed by how they continue to dominate the world?  Or do you want to debate this?

As of right now, I'm just asking the question......WHERE is the alternative?

What nation, culture, or religion that you know of can effectively challenge and overtake so-called "Western" culture  AND provide a more comfortable lifestyle for it's adherents?

What does an alternative have to do with white supremacy except that if there is one, it obviously is inferior.

Alternatives that are inferior shouldn't be considered alternatives at all.

It's like telling someone who's ship has sailed off to Europe without them that an"alternative" is to swim....lol

Again, do you know of any VIABLE alternatives...meaning a nation, culture, or religion that can effectively challenge and overtake White Supremacy AND provide a better lifestyle for those living under it?

Yet, another occasion to apply the "one person looking at the cow's head and the other peering up her ass" analogy.  You are missing the entire point.  What does all that "viable alternative" blather have to do with me challenging someone to disprove that Whites remain in world-wide control because they are, indeed, superior to others???

It's not THE point....it's YOUR point.

Originally I asked you a question, what was the alternative to White Supremacy?

Instead of asnwering you invited me to a debate about whether or not White people were superior.

My question remains, but a simple "I don't know" would suffice if that's the case.

@Pioneer1You turned down my invitation in regard to why white supremacy endures, and i'll return the favor by taking a pass on the non sequitur question you posed.

Lol, that's Ok.
I think WE BOTH know what your answer would have been...had you honestly given it.

Puleeze.  What would a liar like you know about honesty?  What's obvious is that if you could answer what you asked, you'd do it, rather than trying to chide me for not answering the ambiguous irrelevant non sequitur question you posed because you couldn't come up with a coherent response to my question.  You're pathetic in your attempt to mask your stupidity.

Guys your back and forth discussion of white supremacy has nothing to do with my original OP.

To be honest with you though, I am sick of this ''white culture'' personally where everyone idolises celebrities and people who make the most money. Everyone is far too competitive in day to day life, and when you become too competitive you become jealous, and jealousy and envy does not help anyone in any way. This is why I am turning to eastern teachings to change the perspective that I have been raised with, because people are just incredibly selfish in this day and age, at least here in Australia. We have a great living standard, but most Australians have an undeveloped spiritual side I believe, and therefore while we have a great living standard, we have a hollow society that is envious, irritable and self centred. I honestly believe that is the reason that depression is so over diagnosed and suicide is so rampant here, is because people have not developed their mind or spiritual side, and are not open to these great teachings from the east.

Have you considered that most East Asians are abandoning or have abandoned THEIR OWN  traditional "eastern teachings" for a more Western lifestyle?

Look at Japan, Korea, China, ect.......
For generations now they have abandoned much of that traditonal culture to adopt Western economic, social, and even moral standards.

Even after war with the West and having two of their major cities nuked and hundreds of thousands of their own people maimed and killed by the West, the Japanese have almost totally submerged themselves into Western culture.

There is a reason for this.

@Pioneer1 The reason is that markers are brilliant.  They understand human psychology and exploit us with ever more sophisticated techniques and tools.  When individuals from Eastern culture are exposed to western values they are converted -- in a single generation.

They, like us, are left spiritually empty as a result.

More money, more stuff, more sex, more, sports, more food, fancier phone, facebook likes and we are never satisfied.  We don't even know what need or what will make us happy.

“The white world — the West — is seen now as a dying creature, totally bereft of spirituality. This being the case, the only hope is for some kind of psychic withdrawal from its values and assumption. Not just America, but most of the noncolored world had been in the process of destroying the spiritual roots of mankind, while not substituting anything meaningful for this destruction.”
Larry Neal

I just now posted an article, “The Black Arts Movement’s Attack on W.E.B. Du Bois’ Theory of Double Consciousness,” written by our new book club moderator, @Tony Lindsay.  Reading Neal's quote made me think about this conversation and we see nothings has change, indeed it has probably gotten worse.

Seems to me we need a new movement not unlike the Black Arts Movement or the Negritude Movement.  In some ways I really do think we are at the beginning of a new movement. Some historian will name it later, but really do think we are witnessing the beginning of a positive change.

Well, the New Age spirituality of the 1960s never completely  died out and it seems to be making somewhat of a comeback what with how more and more people are drifting away from conventional religion and identifying themselves as being  "spiritual".  Meditation and Yoga and organic foods and Vegan diets are more popular  than ever.  Millennials are in the vanguard of those  supporting people who want to be their true selves in regard to sexual orientation, and body weight. Yes, there is still a lot of materialistic superficiality out there in the celebrity world but also being played out on the public stage is how money doesn't buy contentment or true love. In the political realm, young people are abandoning the 2 major political parties and supporting  grass root progressive movements, particularly concerned about climate change and free health care for all, most in agreement with the legalization of the marijuana they associate with relaxation and mind expansion.   All of these represent shifts in lifestyles.

We are  in the midst of the Age of Aquarius and change is ongoing, a process  some have even predicted will include  the complexion of the general population morphing into a neutral beige shade.

At my advanced age,  I am very open to the idea of reincarnation, something that would enable me to come back and immerse myself in a transformed world.   Who knows?  Donald Trump and the effects of his reign might be a case of things having to get worse before they can get better.
