What Up Fam?

Recommended Posts

Just checking in with the family.

I haven't posted in a while because I've had a lot on my plate and spare time is dedicated to sleep, lol.
Hope everything is going reasonably well with you considering the global "crisis" that seems to have been developed over the past few weeks.

What's up man? The pandemic has different reacts depending upon where you live. NYC is shutting down. The college I teach has cancelled all instruction for a full week and will then resume all classes online. They have shut down Broadway theaters, museums, at events too numerous to count. Stores have no hand sanitizers, cleaning products, toilet tissue, water, etc.  many people are wearing masks. My boy told me about a guy that sneezed without covering his mouth. He got cursed out and almost caught a beatdown.

In Florida, some events have been cancelled but walking around in stores it is just a regular day unlike NYC where civil society is beginning to break down.

This is crazy times!

You see, this is one of the reasons I am glad I never developed a liking to wanting to travel far away, nevertheless, that nasty virus came over here anyway!

One of my sons was over there!--in China! I prayed for him because he just would not listen to me. He was over there in December when this thing broke, but according to the news, the Chinese government kept it secret until after January when they knew they could not control it. I have been so stressed. You all just don't know. My son came back after January, and he was totally okay. But, I was telling him and he never even knew what I was talking about! LOL.

Last week, he contacted me and said, "Mom, be careful. There's this new virus going around called Coronavirus..." I was like, "BOY! I told you that when you were in China!!! Man!" he said, Oh really... smh.

Troy and Chev

In MIchigan the Governor has ordered all the shools to close down as well as the gymns and restaurants. Libraries....a popular spot for homeless people....are shut down all over the state also so there's a lot of homeless people wandering around.

There was a little scare this morning in Detroit when many of the transit workers started walking off the job because they had to come into so much contact with the public and the city's public transit system was shut down.
But I guess the issue was resolved a short time ago and there were promises to get the buses and trains moving again.

As is probably the case in your locations, the stores are out of sanitizers, toilet tissue, face masks, and half the stores are out of sliced bread for some reason.....lol.

Troy, you may not agree with this having actually lived IN New York during the time, but to those of us in the rest of the nation who lived so far away.....in my opinion the reaction (and over reaction) to this is bigger than that of 9/11!

I remember 9/11 and people's reaction to it as well as the black-out of 2003 and how it caused a slight panic for a few days.  But this.......

This is different.

This is much different than both those events because it seems to be causing more than just panic but a deep stress and depression in a lot of people because they instinctively know that it's not going to end anytime soon.

I need my sister and brother to be safe and stay healthy in this chaotic time.
Everything happens for a reason.
I believe our SALVATION as AfroAmericans is waiting for us during and on the other side of this major event.

Actually I agree with you. The reaction in NYC is far worse than 911. Dude they shut down schools, restaurants, churches, etc expecting everything to be done online, but the digital divide is real and many people will be left out in the cold. With hourly and gig workers losing income things will just get worse.

Pray this situation does not last long.

Actually, to the contrary......what is happening right now will put the vast majority of humanity on a more EQUAL playing field, because for most people "technology" as they've come to know and rely on it will no longer be available to them.

I don't think most people understand the full scope of what is happening. Western civilization is imploding.

If my expectations are correct, in the coming weeks...."work" and "school" and whether or not they can be performed in person or on-line will be among the least concerns.
Survival will be priority for most.
Not survival of the virus, but survival in the midst of societal chaos.

Glad to hear you all are doing ok. I've been relocating from my Arizona/Utah property to my Colorado spot that is even more remote. I'm staying far away from civilization. I'll be responding to everyone's posts in the next day or two. California is completely shut down now. I get my mail in Las Vegas. Drove to the place yesterday and got there around 6 p.m. The streets in LAS VEGAS were completely empty. All the casinos are closed. It was eerie driving through.

Wow! The big casino here (Tampa) is still open 24 hours a day.

Dude, this is the situation for most of us already. Maybe Kareem has the right idea.

Have y'all read Parable of the Sower?
