Troy
In another conversation @Pioneer1 shared the following: For those who think that's ridiculous..... Look at what happened to brown skinned Native Americans: Native Americans of the 1800s "Native Americans" today. Pioneer's comment struck me, because I have noticed this too. Just a couple of days ago I watched a documentary on the Smithsonian Channel, Battle of Little Big Horn. I visited the site of the battle, for I find what as happen to the indigenous peoples of America incredibly appalling. Interestingly, the "Native Americans" speaking in the documentary all presented as white. Not one looked like the Native American's we see in photos from the 19th century! For you Trekies out there, It was like looking at Klingons from the original Star Trek series and the Klingons in the films -- you are like, WTF happened to these people?! I mean we know what Sitting Bull Looked like: But who the heck is this guy? This always always puzzled me. I mean when you visit a reservation (I recently visited the Navaho Nation), you see people who like Native Americans from the pictures, so I know they exist. But when you go to casinos owned by "Native Americans," you always wonder, well where the heck are the Native American owners? I just assumed they were in the back counting all the money they making... I started reading this book about the Tulsa massacre, Tulsa, 1921: Reporting a Massacre by Randy Krehbiel. Which gave me some insight which supports exactly what Pioneer was describing as "White Supremacists are sneaky." The infamous Trail of Tears ended in Oklahoma. The people who survived the death march were dumped onto land that was not viewed as particularly valuable or even hospitable. Tulsa 1921 goes on to explain, that oil was discovered on this land. Once this happened white men would marry the Natives American land owners. These women would be killed or disappear. Leaving ownership to the white men who ultimately became exorbitantly wealthy. Devils. Oil made Tulsa Oklahoma one of the most prosperous cities in the country. It was home to perhaps the most prosperous Black community, which would later be known as The Black Wall Street. Most adults now know Tulsa was one of the worst, of many American massacres of Black people. Devils. Now if Black people do get reparations in the form of significant financial remuneration. This is of course highly unlikely, but lets continue with the thought experiment: Do we think Black women would be more or less desirable marriage material by white men? When financially successful Black people decide to marry white people, it has to be viewed in the context of our American history.
