Unsolicited Advice

Recommended Posts

I'm a True Crime buff. I love reading about or watching re-creations of murder cases that dedicated detectives and dogged police work eventually solve.  I tune into all of the TV staples on this subject: DATELINE, 20/20, 48 hours, Discovery ID,  and last but not least, "Fatal Attraction", which is a black series that I watch on a regular basis.  Like Maury's show, Fatal Attraction gives you a snap shot of the life styles of the black Section 8 sub culture  or,  in these cases, the death styles.  The story lines on this show are very predictable because they all follow the same pattern.  For all the black sistas out there, there are valuable lessons to be gained from watching this show.

(1) if you are a vivacious, attractive, goal-oriented student whose smile lights up the room, beware of hunks with athletic scholarships in their future. When you fall for one and a week later you find yourself pregnant, forget about having the baby and graduating in an oversized cap and gown. Never mind that Big Mama and Motha Deah, are OK with the idea, and you've found an after school job to help pay for baby clothes. When your speedy running back boyfriend prefers that you bring an end to these plans, do it.  Or you will be murdered. Either by him or his cousin who knows somebody who has a gun.  Your body will be found in a deserted area and his other more vivacious, more attractive, more ambitious girlfriend will tell cops he was with her during the time the coroner says your murder occurred. Yes, the law may catch up with him on the campus where he's tearing up the grid iron, but it will be too late. You will be dead.

(2) If you are a bright, vivacious, attractive twenty-something with plans to attend your community college to get a nursing assistant degree, and you meet this cool guy whose erection builds you up and a week later you are pregnant and, over the objections of your lover, you have the baby, beware! Don't find another guy and get on with your life, or your baby daddy will kill you.  Never mind, that he has a wife and 3 kids.  You his woman and no bitch walks away from him.

(3)Or, - if you are a bright, vivacious, career woman who exudes confidence and you finally meet and marry Mr. Right, but 5 years later you're paying all the expenses for his extravagant lifestyle, don't tell him you've changed the beneficiary on that 6-figure insurance policy. He will try and kill you to collect on it but beat him to the draw. Slowly poison him with massive doses of Murine eyedrops, and cremate his ass.

I don't like to be a killjoy.  But, I'm just sayin...

Cynique, I think you've covered the bases in providing excellent advice to young ladies.

if I may tell young fellas overflowing with testosterone how they should interpret this PSA:

Hunt thirsty well beyond menopause cougars. Buy a pair of rose colored glasses to make them look vivacious and a tub of K-Y Jelly to make them more pliable.

If you're really lucky, she'll love to f8ck and cook and may have a few coins too.

Do not spend the night as you may not appreciate how she smells and  prepares for bed and/or how she looks in the morning when she awakes.

I think we've provided some good advice to both sides of the aisle. Hopefully, they'll heed it and be great. 😁😎

There is a branch of Criminology called Victimology.

Victimology is the study of the (stupid) things that victims do to

attract a criminal or a crime to happen to them.

I am not trying to blame the victim, but you really should be more

careful about the things you do to invite negative consequences.

I will list a few things you should consider below:

Don't go out at night, alone, walking down the dark street, wearing

every single piece of fancy jewelry that you own.  Some thieves are

not too smart and they will mistake that cheap gold knock-off for

the real thing.  This also applies to designer handbags, etc.

Don't wear a bunch of chains, necklaces or other things around

your neck.  This gives a culprit a handy way to grab, choke, and

control you, or even kill you.

Don't have a purse or pocket full of cash, and then let everybody

know that you have a purse or pocket full of cash.  It really doesn't

have to be a lot of cash, people will rob you for $20.

Be careful when you go to the ATM.  Try to use one that is inside

somewhere, not on the street or at the bank because that is where

criminals hangout waiting for their next mark.  Don't be a mark.

Don't go out wearing extremely skimpy outfits, and then wonder

why untoward things keep happening to you.  Save your skimpy

outfit that exposes all your goodies for the booty call, not the

grocery store.

If you are living with someone or in relationship with someone

that you know is crazy and violent, if you decide to leave, just

leave.  Don't announce that you are going to leave.  Even if

he isn't violent, people snap.

Don't ever let a criminal take you to a secondary location.

If you end up in the middle of nowhere with a criminal,

you will probably be toast.

You get the idea.  Be careful, use common sense and

always protect yourself.

Do women typically find out they are pregnant a WEEK after having sex?

First time I heard that one.

Or let them hunt you...lol

I've always liked older women.
Even when I was in my teens I was trying to get with women in their 30s and peeping out a few in their 40s.

But didn't realize how much some older women actually liked younger dudes until I went to Europe and had so many older women approach me.
I was in my 20s and had women in their 60s (but didn't look it) coming on strong to me.
I'm sure the fact that I'm Black helped a lot with that though (smile)

The funniest part to me is how any of these people really think they're going to get away with their crime.

Technology has only made it easier for detectives and forensic specialists to do their jobs.

The dumb sh8t people do and trail of clues  they leave behind usually don't take more than 15 minutes to solve.

The 1st 48 is hilarious especially when they get folks in the interrogation room. Eventually, the story doesn't add up, their head drops,  true confession and they go out in cuffs. 😁😎

I have heard women say they knew that they had

conceived at the time or right after coitus.  I guess

they had women’s intuition or they were doing some

entrapment trickery where they were trying to get

knocked up on purpose.

Perhaps....
But you know a lot of people are "after-the-fact prophets".
They saw all kinds of signs and premonitions AFTER it happened and they're talking about it afterwards.
But before whatever happened....happened....they were carrying on as normal.
Kind of like these people who claimed they had premonitions about 9/11.

Same with a lot of these cases.

It was only AFTER they went to the doctor and were declared pregnant that they "knew" they had conceived the moment it happened.

I'd like to see evidence of them saying it right then and there and weeks or months LATER having their statement confirmed.

I'm not saying it's impossible....because nothing is impossible.

However you have so many dreamers out there.

When I have an intuition or premonition I like to not only document it but tell it to a few other people as WITNESSES.....so when it comes true they can bear me witness.

Yes that's true. A few women have told me they could feel their ovum.

I'm sure women have told you a LOT of things....when you dress up and impersonate a gynecologist, lol.

Okay, but this is not a court case, it’s just a discussion.

You can go to the drug store and purchase an early pregnancy test kit which if administered 6 days before your expected period, will give you a 98 percent accuracy result.

So....
Your scenario about a woman finding out she's pregnant a week after conception wasn't such a joke or exaggeration AFTER all.
You just needed more confirmation of it's possibility before standing by it.

Yeah....ok...😏...gotcha, lol

The late Dr. Frances Cress Welsing said black folks shouldn't procreate until they're at least 30 years old and married. That would definitely solve a few problems and prevent crimes.

I remember she said that often.

I notice that children who come from older parents tend to be better adjusted than children who come from teenaged parents.
This isn't ALWAYS the case, but it is in the majority of cases.

Older parents usually have gotten their "mistakes" out of the way early so they know what they're doing by the time they get into their 30s.

IMO, maturity and a real desire to work together and procreation agreed upon usually leads to a better outcome.  People turn out better when they're created out of some kind of love and raised with it.

Those oops babies have a 50/50 chance of getting the love and support needed to become well adjusted and productive members of society.

Most dysfunctional people can be traced back to the crash dummies who created them. 😁😎

The PEW institute, after much research, offers a very simple formula as a stepping stone to a better life. But Liberals dismiss it as being simple solutions to complicated problems.  PEW says: [1] Don't be a high school drop-out, (2)Delay pregnancy (3) get a job.  😳

I can see that, because I'm Progressive and I DO dismiss it as being overly simplistic for a number of reasons but mostly 2:

1. It's out dated for todays economy and society
2. It doesn't apply to most Black and Brown people

When I was homeless years ago, half of the people on the street met all three requirements and STILL ended up on the streets for one reason or another.

Graduating highschool, delaying pregnancy and getting a job is just a START in the right direction.

A "stepping stone" is the correct term for it because it's like Kindgergarten in the school of success.
But there are so many factors and obstacle in this society that you must avoid and overcome that this advice  is almost pathologically deceptive

How hard is it to finish high school? What do you have better to do?  How hard is it to not get pregnant?  Birth control is readily available.  How hard is it to get a minimum wage starter job?  A survey was part of this PEW study.  In questioning those who had made their way up in life, doing these 3 things were what the majority of them had in common. But people who make their living in social service and all of its spin offs find excuses for those they serve.  Helping the needy  is an industry unto itself.

Without helpless and needy folks, unemployment would be through the roof if fewer social services were required.

How hard is it to finish high school?

It's VERY hard for someone with a below average IQ OR someone with a normal IQ but haven't been taught proper studying techniques....which is the case for most students in the United States.

Besides.......

The highschool graduation rate is FAR higher today than it was back in the 1960s and 1970s...yet POVERTY is far higher too.
How do you explain this?

How hard is it to not get pregnant?  Birth control is readily available.

RELIABLE birth control isn't.
Human beings are sexual by nature and often aren't taught how to properly use birth control nor are most teenage girls able to get abortions if they get pregnant.
They are encouraged to have their babies by the families and religous communities.

But teen pregnancy is down since the 1970s...but poverty is UP since the 1970s.
Again, how do you explain this?

While this is true....it doesn't explain why so many people END UP in poverty in the first place.

All you're doing is pointing at how shoddy the social safety net is; and I'd agree.
But nothing you've said EXPLAINS why so many people are in need of one to begin with.

Again, over half of the homeless people on the street met all three criteria and STILL ended up in a destitute situation.

Fascinating

@Cynique your conversation with @Pioneer1 on this subject reveals class differences between both of you.  You come from a higher class than Pioneer.  It is not a value judgment, just an observation.

My experience growing up in the 'hood is that it is easier to end up in prison than college for a certain class of people.  So, I have no problem understanding that finishing high school can be a challenge.  The cool kids dropped out and hung out in the street where the action was. The kids who did well in school were teased, which stunts performance of these students, unless their is some other factor to counter it -- and their usually isn't.  Our teachers expectation were low as they were not from, or had anyu investment in our community.

My kids were reared in a higher class, than the one I was raised in.  They did not have to do things like fight other kids, smart kids were admired, and virtually all of their peers had two parents at home.

Many girls in my neighborhood had children in high school, I knew of one who gave birth in 6th grade...  By the time I was an adult, some high schools provided day care for the student's children.

@TroyYes, i understand this, which is why I've always claimed that the black experience is different from person to person.  i grew up in a small midwestern town, a suburb of Chicago in the 1930s during the Great Depression.  My parents were among the first wave of the Great Migration, coming north seeking better lives for themselves.

My wholesome formative years read like a black version of the comic book character Archie Andrews.  I've always lived in interracial environments, all the schools I attended were integrated, never had a black teacher.  Even during the Depression my parents owned their own home, had a car and  steady jobs, my father as a Pullman porter, my mother as a maid for wealthy white people .  And, as I have marveled at many times on this board, to the chagrin of some, in the early 1950s during the 2 years i spent at the University of Illinois, when the Civil Rights movement was coming into fruition spurred by the murder of Emmitt Till and Rosa Parks' refusal to give up her front seat on the bus,  as a member of  the  matriculating Freshman class, i and a few other blacks integrated the women's dormitories at this Big 10 university.

As a result, when blacks began their march for equality, I was living in a facility kept clean by white maids, eating in a dining room where i was served by a white wait staff. The AKA sorority house where i later lived was the only one in the entire country that existed on a white campus as, were  the houses of The Kappas, Alphas, and Deltas.

Yes, my upbringing was different - and  possibly a lot more typical than others might  think.   Who has the credentials  to speak for all  black people?

@Pioneer1Where are you getting the figures that half of homeless people have met this criteria?  Since what I said was "true", it explains why fewer people end up in poverty. A lot of people don't end up on the street because they know how to "game the welfare system" where they can get away with being slackers. The welfare system provides gainful employment for many people. so in this area  the poor and the middle class have a symbiotic relationship.

My mother values were firmly middle class, lower middle, but firmly middle class.  When she moved into the projects in 1962 it was not a low class environment.  It began changing after she moved in. In a less than decade, most of East Harlem was a urban slum.

@Troy People from my status and generation were the forerunners of who later became known as "bougies" a group who now occupy a large segment of the black population as second and third generations of the fledgling black bourgeoise. I was never an oreo. All i wanted was to belong to the "in crowd" of cool blacks. The under pining of middle class values are all about respectability and propriety.  Anybody can have middle class values if they strive to be upstanding and ethical and hardworking. Nowadays people just give the facade of being this way, while doing and acting anyway they want to in private. Also the town that i grew up in had ghetto acting people. i was not naive to the waywardness of the poverty stricken underclass.

Can anyone be "hard working" if they don't have any good paying jobs to work hard AT?

Can anyone be upstanding and ethical if they weren't taught the spoken and unspoken social rules that govern much of corporate/middle class America?
Rules that most people don't learn UNLESS they've gone to college and learned them by association.

Middle class values are there for anyone to adopt in the process of doing what it takes to get ahead. These values don't cost anything but good character. They're a state of mind!  Do you ever think in the abstract? And you consider yourself a critical thinker.  You could benefit from a class in Sociology.

Therein lies the rub Cynique, for you see that it is actually harder for someone trying to be middle class than for someone was was born into it over a period of generations.

For example of grew up with the "get over" mentality.  It was not a mentality that my mom instilled in me, it was one I learned in the street.  It encompasses everything from cheating on tests, beating fares, shoplifting, selling drugs, not paying of lying on taxes, etc, etc.  This mentality sees nothing wrong with any of these activities -- in fact you are a sucker if you don't do these things.

So while middle class values are indeed available to anyone, the lower you are on the social-economic ladder, the more difficult it might be to achieve.  Of course the transition is easier for some than others.  Staying in the middle class, is particularly for Black people -- there are quite a few new books written on this subject from different angles.

@TroyMost people know right from wrong. They just live by their own code.  In all of these true crime stories that I watch it's not unusual for a suspect being grilled by police to finally confess to committing murder or withholding the evidence because their conscience bothered them, or to deny committing a homicide explaining that dealing drugs, yes; killing people, no; or shooting down a parent and leaving a child alive.  One case that stuck with me had to do with how a guy arrested for several murders, also confessed to another one that someone else had been convicted of. In doing so, the guy mentioned that the falsely accused man was, like him, a former Marine, and this brotherhood was what made him absolve the other guy of guilt. Semper Fi

That's you problem (well....atleat one of them...lol).
You keep arguing from an ABSTRACT or THEORETICAL perspective instead of a practical one...a more realistic point of view.

Your argument is all a person has to do is dot every "i" and cross every "t" and everything will be alright for them; as if LIFE doesn't happen.

It still hasn't occured to you that a large percentage of the population do not have the ability to graduate highschool.
A good 20% don't have the ability to read at atleast a 7th grad level.

And even if you do everything you "think" is right...you can still fall through the cracks if there isn't a sound and solid safetynet to keep you from doing so.

Besides, graduating from highschool and not getting pregnant mean NOTHING if you are pre-disposed to addiction and end up an alcoholic or drug addict which is one of the main reasons so many people end up in destitution.

Most people know right from wrong. They just live by their own code.  In all of these true crime stories that I watch

🥺 See...
And that's ANOTHER  problem right there.

You're watching that propaganda on television thinking THAT'S reality.
It conditions you into that "good guy vs bad guy" mindset where you blame PEOPLE for all of their conditions instead of spreading some of that blame to the society they were brought up in.

And you consider yourself a critical thinker.  You could benefit from a class in Sociology.

....and you could benefit from Behavior Modification Therapy.

For example of grew up with the "get over" mentality.  It was not a mentality that my mom instilled in me, it was one I learned in the street.  It encompasses from cheating on tests, beating fares, shoplifting, selling drugs, not paying of lying on taxes, etc, etc.  This mentality sees nothing wrong with any of these activities -- in fact you are a sucker if you don't do these things.

Exactly.
She never HAD to do any of these things and probably never group up around people who DID have to.
So in her "sheltered" mind....there is no excuse for not staying the course and completing the assignment.

When you're facing not being able to eat or have a roof over your head...these "values" and "rules" go out the window and you do what you need to do to SURVIVE and stay alive.

You're not thinking about graduating school when you're in an abusive home where you're getting your butt kicked every other day and watching a loved one get even worse.
Education is the least of your concerns.

That's not my argument. That's yours and one Troy has already put forth. I never said anything about people being obligated to go this way. It's a simple formula that has worked for many people. Nor is there a "large percentage" of the population who do not have the ability to graduate from high school.   In fact, the graduation rate is up for black kids. And getting a GED  counts for something, too. not to mention that today's kids are all  computer literate because they have phones and games and the internet and high schools nowadays are geared toward computerization.   incidentally i did not lead a sheltered life.

It's a simple formula that has worked for many people.

Selling dope has worked for "many people" too.
Prostitution has worked for "many people".
Stealing has worked for "many people".

We're not talking about what works for "many" people.
That's not the focus.

The focus is on...or should be on....what works for MOST people.

And?

The "graduation" rate is up for ALL kids now a days because they're not flunking them or holding them back anymore.
As long as they show up to class and don't drop out, they're shuffling them through the system.

You have kids showing up to college who can't even read and can barely count.

Graduating from highschool NOW a days means next to nothing.

You mean the same computer literate kids that spell "you" as "u", never capitalize their words, and think emojiis are actual letters of the alphabet?

Oh....THOSE kids....lol....gotcha.😉

incidentally i did not lead a sheltered life.

@Pioneer1Sounds like your semi-literate, incorrect grammar and spelling, "ect"  instead of "etc" self. Your disagreement is a form of validation because you're full of specious arguments. A word which you probably don't know the meaning of.

@Cynique

There's a few people on here with typos including

you, me, and Troy.  This does not invalidate a person's

comments and pointing out typos is crass.

@Pioneer1

I heard there were people graduating from college

that are illiterate.  How can you get through college

when you can't even read and write?

BTW, where were you today?  Cynique was asking

about you.  I think she might have been jonesing.
