What Did We Really Gain?

Biden recently nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson for the supreme court. Initially, I was proud that a black sister was finally nominated. But quickly I went from pride to disappointment when the cameras rolled over to her husband, Patrick G. Jackson, who so happens to be white. It did not help matters that Jackson stood on one side of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris (also married to a white guy) was on the other.  I know many are not in favor of being told who to love but this matter goes deeper than that. For some odd, unknown reason powerful black women are migrating to white men seemingly without regard for the message this send to a black brother. Secondly, there is the unspoken rule that a white husband gives Jackson a leg up in terms of white acceptance and yes too in the terms of her nomination, and probable appointment. For those of you who do not know the judge's husband is Patrick G. Jackson. He is twin brother of Former House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (Republican) brother-in-law, William Jackson. So, my first concern is that we are getting a female version of Clarence Thomas on the Supreme court and secondly, I am mad at the mere thought that to be accepted a black person yet has to have the assistance of white influence. As if this the only way they can stomach us. Obama was half white, Harris is half black and married to a white male and now Jackson is married to white.  Don't tell me you don't see the pattern. Why was a bother not good enough? How is she going to rule when a case comes her involving injustices towards a young, black men?

More Racism and Misogyny on the part of some. What does it matter whom this intelligent and gifted woman is married to?

Unless you think that someone other than U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson should choose her mate.

Women are free to do as they please. And this includes Black Women.

What did we gain? Something we've never had before: A gifted Black jurist who may be confirmed to the nation's highest court.

And more importantly, Judge Jackson has valuable experience being a defense attorney.

Again, I'm elated that Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been nominated to SCOTUS.

I'm not concerned about who Judge Jackson is married to but more interested to see what Justice Jackson will do on the bench once confirmed.

I seriously doubt that a Justice Jackson will be anything like the black fella currently taking up a seat on the bench. 😁😎

To some black people we gained gained everything, to some black people we gained a lot, to some black people we gained a little, to some black people we gained nothing. All of the black people are correct in their assessment.

Some black people they will be inspired by her marriage,  some black people will be happy for her marriage, some black people will be unhappy for her marriage, some black people will be emptied by her marriage.

All of the black people are correct in their reactions to her marriage.

In government, the record of an individual in the past usually displays their thinking in the future. Don't expect any suprises from her or any in government. Obama/Kamala Harris all had years of activity which explained how they will be in higher posts. Ketanji is no different. All elected officials are like that. Ronald Reagan was governor of California. As governor he did a miniature to his time as president.

My larger thoughts

Ketanji Brown Jackson is a very ordinary looking black woman, not a glamourous example of eye candy.  Her white husband is a  physician, and as such, could have undoubtedly had his pick of white women to marry.  The fact that he chose a black woman says a lot about him - and about her.  High profile black males have a history of rejecting sistas in favor of white wives.  When the tables are turned, they have no grounds for complaining.

I live your mental gymnastics. You demonstrate perfectly why this isn’t brought up about Kamala Harris. The question is are only Mixed or Willing to mix Black people socially acceptable on both sides of the spectrum.

Well, in the case of President Obama, "a brother" was more than good enough. Obama's father is a black man who met the President's mother in college when both were studying Russian. But President Obama is married to a black woman he met on the job (White Shoe Law firm) "When Barry Met Michelle."

There is a pattern, and it's called access.

We rarely leave our comfort zone to find a mate.

Judge Brown Jackson met her husband when they were in school (Harvard). A mutual friend set Madame Vice President up on a blind date with her future husband (former Partner at a multinational law firm). They married when she was 50 or already in her 50s.

If there's something to gripe about, it's how they all run together like some badass wolfpack.

Btw, betcha didn't know the Late Senator John McCain's daughter-in-law is a black woman. McCain's son met his wife in the military.

First, what does race have to do with it?

Secondly, there are gray clouds everywhere...

"Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Judicial Off-Roading"

"Her ruling in this case demonstrates unfitness for the High Court."

"If only she also checked the one marked “judicial excellence.”"

"Her ruling is indicative of a mediocre judge whose politics easily trumps the law."

https://spectator.org/ketanji-brown-jacksons-judicial-off-roading/

= = = = =

"“I don’t see the superstar. She only had a couple of noteworthy opinions,” Constitutional Law professor Josh Blackman told the Washington Examiner."

"Jackson is a product of the ruling class and its ideology. Her race is irrelevant.”"

"Debates about her questionable knowledge, aberrant views, and just eight months in her current position on the Court of Appeals will barely be mentioned amid the canonization by legacy media."

https://ussanews.com/commentary-as-judges-go-ketanji-brown-jackson-is-not-diverse-nor-extraordinary/

= = = = =

"But research released this week by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, calls into question Judge Jackson’s judicial philosophy concerning sex predators, particularly sentencing for child sex predators."

https://thefederalist.com/2022/03/18/yes-the-senate-should-investigate-ketanji-brown-jacksons-leniency-towards-sex-predators/

And the list goes on and on and on...

I agree.

I don't feel that she should be pre-judged by other people's choices but give her a chance.

So far, I have not read any negative choices made on her part.

So far,  Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson should be  well on her way to being confirmed to the SCOTUS.

Judge Jackson has masterfully handled any shade a committee member has thrown at her. Some of the questions they've asked her were ridiculous.

No other nominee would have been asked about critical race theory, gender identity, child pornography case sentencing, etc.

It will be interesting to see who voted for her to be a judge but chooses to vote against her going to the SCOTUS. 😎

But West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin said he would vote to confirm Judge Jackson.

So the heck with what biased White Conservatives think about a talented and incredibly qualified Black woman federal judge.

Her critics in the GOP had the nerve to criticize her by linking her to Critical Race Theory when so few individuals in this entire country cannot even explain what it is.

CRT is a theory and is an advanced elective university law school class.

Well, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he will vote against confirming Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court.

No surprise there.

Right.  He's the same jackazz who voted against her nomination to the federal appeals court.  His reasoning is purely political and probably racist too.  It has nothing to do with her qualifications.😎

Asians began arriving in the U.S. in the late 1800's, not 40 years ago.

It is true that as an ethnic group, Asians enjoy the highest income of all groups in the U.S.

The disdain directed at Asians for their high income by others is comical. Similar to those who become angry because U.S. Jews may always defend their group out of fear of mass anti-Semitism.

Black people? For some, a "Crabs in a Barrel" mantra define them. For others, belief in the financial acumen of Whites or others prevails.

But the reality of Asian financial success is quite complicated.

Not every Asian is rich, pulls down a high salary and the differences are due mostly to immigration and country of origin. And those who went and graduated from a college or a university. And of course, those who pick and learn English the fastest and the best.

Everyone needs to understand that when folks from India and Pakistan are included in the income total of Asian Americans, the group's earnings average skyrocket.

Not every Asian enjoys a high annual income

Senator Lindsey Graham is going to vote against Judge Jackson.

Sen. Graham said she's of good character but he's voting against her due to a "record of judicial activism, flawed sentencing methodology and a belief that she will not be deterred by the plain meaning of the law when it comes to liberal causes."

Sen. Graham is full of it. 😁😎
