Oh, baby!

Recommended Posts

The day we "pro-choice" women have secretly been dreading has infortunately arrived with the reversal of Roe vs Wade by the U.S. Extreme Court. With Hillary Clinton's defeat in 2016, I knew then there was a possibility of this ruling be rescinded because the political right was crawling with fetus-worshipping hypocrites frantic to make motherhood a punishment rather than a privilege, - via  reinstating a ban on legal abortions.  This was why I had been urging Hillary haters to get on board with the Moderates in order to maintain the supreme court liberal majority through appointments made possible by the election of a Democratic president. That majority was what would protect Roe vs Wade for years to come... Wishful thinking.

The Supreme Court Justice who wrote the decision that reversed Roe vs. Wade asserted,  in part, that the Constitution doesn't protect a woman's right to abortion because no such right exists. That's on a par with saying that slaves had no right to be free because they belonged to their slave masters.  On the other hand, privately and publicly bearing arms, whose only purpose is to kill or injure, was a right the Foundling Fathers endowed themselves with while playing fast and loose with the word "inalienable".

Now, over 2 centuries later, citizens are still under the thrall  of a document that in this country rivals the Bible when it comes to being sacred.  In reality, the revered Constitution is flawed and outdated, and those who wrote it were misogynistic, racist, potential murderers, and have been reincarnated in the form of right-wing Conservatives  with their skewed interpretations of when a right exists and who is entitled to exercise it. Black folks, beware! Your right to have been emancipated might be challenged next. Lincoln could be ruled ineligible to undo what God let happen.

And speaking of rights and legacies, let's focus on the "notorious RBG". This prim, shriveled-up little Jewish lady garnered much acclaim and admiration presumably because of her great legal mind. But Ruth Bader Ginsberg wasn't above thinking small when, in her late 70s, she was approached by an uppity black POTUS daring to suggest she retire so he could appoint a younger person to secure a liberal majority in the high court. Ruth obstinately rejected this idea, implying that this was a request she preferred to grant to Hillary Clinton. But - thanks to that other disastrous ruling known as the "electoral college", Hillary lost, RBG died, Trump appointed, and the rest is history.

So, here we are. 2022. Liberals, in jeopardy of being inundated by a conservative tsunami that will wash away all the progress that honored personal choices and privacy, are now left with only one choice: Fall back and regroup.

We are returning to feudalism. Which will be slavery lite but it would be the first time all men (women) will be equal.

The real history of the US is a bit different than the advertised version.

Only white male property owners could vote.

Yes!” Fall Back and regroup”  That is definitely a Black woman thing.

After the decision was handed down -a black out should have followed. With leaders and others saying “No comment. Then every women retreating indoors. Just go home or stay home.  We would act like we were “sitting shiva” over a dead relative.

One - It would have been unexpected and two - it would have absolutely scared the sh*t out of SCOTUS and the world.  It would have been “a world without women”  even if it only lasted 7 hours.

But of course,  here in the U.S., white women must perform. And of course, some dude ran  over them with a truck.  Phoenix law enforcement tear-gassed protesters.  A Black woman, who is running for state senate  in RI decided to march, only to get punched in the face twice by her republican opponent who is also works as a cop. It might have worked in her favor, since he dropped out of the race but the optics distract while reinforcing the message of brute force against women.

The State was prepared for disruption.

But total silence and no presence would h e rocked them to the core.

Sort of like when a Black woman says, “I’m Fine.”

But you know,

All Hell is about to break loose and you’re about to have a come-to-Jesus meeting”

This didn't have to happen. As Cynique noted, If Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had resigned when Barack Obama was in the White House, he could have nominated her replacement.

But RBG's stupid ego got in the way. She began to believe far too much in her own importance. But she was just one woman. And an ill and fragile one. I knew RBG would never survive the winner of the 2016 election.

This is why I urged Bernie Bots not to vote third party after it became apparent their Socialist hero could never win the Dem nomination. Unfortunately, most Democrats underestimated the childishness of many Bernie Bots. Like petulant children who can't get their way, they ignored common sense and refused to vote for Hillary.

In fact so many remained enraged he fell short that more than 10% of the Vermont Senator's supporters actually voted for Trump, according to many exit polls and NPR.

They had no idea what kind of lasting damage they were doing.

I've always said the Freedom to Choose is a Woman's Issue. Men needed to stay out of it. Women are intelligent enough to make these decisions for themselves. Unless men can get pregnant, they needed to shut up.

The same with the Bible Thumpers. Trotting out three thousand year old Scriptures may seem sensible, but those verses are three thousand years old. How many on this planet still respect their words?

Do we still stone people for adultery? Do we still practice brother-in-law marriage? Are there such things called "Cities of Refuge" for accidental killers? How many pregnant women lose their fetuses because of violence from men? Are the men always executed as punishment? Can men have multiple wives today? Not according to the Bible's New Testament.

The Freedom to Choose has never been about religion or saving fetuses. It was always about sexist control.

The first thing voting women need to do is recognize whom you can reach and whom will never side with you.

Then act accordingly.

Women sure are lucky they have you as their spokesman. With your hindsight and wisdom you will become the emperor of uni-verse.

I think that's definitely the direction the Western world (especially the United States) is headed.

Mel

Women are even more divided and fractured in terms of special interests and agendas than the AfroAmerican community!

Look at how 53% of White women voted for Donald Trump -an open and unapologetic sexist even when he was campaigning.

As I was driving home Friday afternoon unaware of what happened........
I came across an intersection and on all 4 sides I saw dozens of women jumping up and down with signs in their hands yelling and shaking their fists about something and at the same time on the same sidewalks I saw a bunch of  women in gowns who look like they were preparing for a wedding and they either ignored those women or were irritated by them not caring about the abortion issue at all.

The gov't had 50 years to codify Roe v Wade into law. It could have been taken out of the hands of SCOTUS.

Rhetorically, I wonder why neither party pursued codification. Now, the politicians want to do what they always do...spend more time  *talking* about it. 😎

Exactly!  They are down with the greys nationalism.

I read a thread yesterday, where one white woman suggested something similar to what women did in Iceland  in 1975 to get equal rights. Nearly every other comment stated "we can't do that" But in Iceland 90% of women in Iceland went on strike for one day 24 October 1975 - and that strike changed their entire trajectory of their country. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-34602822

My home girl and rap partner produced this short film. 😁  FYI YouTube won't let me embed the video because YouTube gave it a mature rating 🙄

No one thought A Woman's Right to Choose needed to be codified. Because no one thought that U.S. voters would ever elect a racist and lying numbskull such as Trump.

I explained how Trump got elected. I suspect most do not want to acknowledge this because they also might have voted for a third party candidate.

You wanna know who's to blame? If you're a Bernie devotee or you hate Democrats, look in the mirror.

Here's the bottom line: Abortion will always be a woman's issue. And Gun Rights ain't going away.

But White Conservatives will control the outcome of any national disputes.

They know Black people can be divided easily and made to vote against their own self-interests.

@Stefan, I don't see how anyone could have thought that a woman's right to choose didn't need to be codified when Pro-Lifers have been around for just as long as Planned Parenthood.

For many years, folks have been protesting outside abortion clinics.  Some folks have gone so far as to bomb them.  Abortion has always been an issue for some folks.

I believe people took for granted that Roe v Wade would never be overturned because popular opinion in America is that abortion should be legal.

With one politicized decision, the SCOTUS has forced people to rethink the protection of affirmative action, gay marriage and other concerns that could be transferred back to the states, 😎

@ProfD

For the reasons I spelled out. This was not just Trump's fault.

And Affirmative Action will likely be defeated for good by the Clarence Thomas-led Supreme Court.

There is a lot of blame to go around about the overturning of Roe v Wade, starting with Justice Ginsburg refusing to retire.

Bernie acting like an intransigent jerk and refusing to forcefully endorse Hillary.

Hillary herself declining to spell out what she do as POTUS. Instead of repeating Trump is crazy. He proved it, but too many, even those who are Black, still dismiss this.

Really dumb and illogical voters who supported Bernie and thought the world would be handed to them. But at the expense of others.

And then coming up with lies to mask why Bernie really lost. Because most people saw through his bullchit, that's why.

Socialism would never work in a Land of Hate and Greed.
