To accurately
capture the essence of the National Book Club Conference, we call it an
experience. That's so because it is beyond a literary event. Beyond getting your
book signed. Beyond meeting a few authors. Rather, the weekend is a lasting,
meaningful occasion where participants and authors alike convene with book
lovers in a most relaxed, intimate, decadent and fun atmosphere. And when you
leave, the weekend travels with you. It's an experience.
The 4th-annual NBCC will be no different; in fact, it will be only better. The
venue again will be the posh Westin Peachtree Plaza in downtown Atlanta, Aug.
4-6. The quality of the authors will again be the highest. Already committed:
Terry McMillan,
E. Lynn Harris, Walter Mosley,
J. California Cooper,
Donna Hill,
Tajuana (TJ) Butler,
Nick Chiles and Denene Milner,
Karen Quinones Miller,
Mary Monroe, Nancey Flowers.
And rest assured other top-flight authors will be added as the planning
continues.
Indeed, the NBCC is the world's
largest book club meeting, and all the charm, learning, fun and fellowship that
come with conventional meetings are the hallmarks of the '06 occasion. What
distinguishes the NBCC from any other literary event is the access to authors.
At the '05 NBCC, Terry McMillan not only received the Walter Mosley Author of
Distinction Award, but she attended the "book club meetings" of Trisha R. Thomas
and Bebe Moore Campbell, among others. She also was a panelist on the Past,
Present and Future of Black Literature discussion.
Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant
held improptu discussions with readers outside the ballroom. J. California
Cooper sat in the hotel's garden and conversed with a group of fans. Walter
Mosley posed for photos with book lovers at every turn.
Always a fixture at the NBCC will be a plethora of talented self-published
authors who have written thoughtful, interesting and insightful books that
deserve any reader's support.
All in all, the National Book Club Conference promises to deliver a
one-of-a-kind literary occasion in an environment that is learning, fun and
lasting. The one drawback from the success of the conference is that there is an
unbelievable demand that requires you secure you position today.
