Binyavanga Wainaina

Kenneth Binyavanga Wainaina was born January 18, 1971 and is a Kenyan author, journalist and winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing. In April 2014, Time magazine included Wainaina in its annual TIME 100 as one of the “Most Influential People in the World.” “Binya,” as he was known by friends, gained a great deal of notoriety after publishing the essay, “How to Write About Africa” in 2005.

Tragically Wainaina passed May 21, 2019. He was 48 years old.
