G’Ra Asim

G’Ra Asim is a writer, musician, and assistant professor of English at Washington University in St. Louis. He is the author of Boyz n the Void: A Mixtape to My Brother, which was named one of Kirkus Reviews’ Best Nonfiction Books of 2021.

Asim has served as a writing director at the African American Policy Forum and as a graduate teaching fellow in Columbia University’s Undergraduate Writing Program. His forthcoming work of critical nonfiction, 99 Problems Finding the 1, will be published by Beacon Press.

His essays have appeared in Slate, Salon, Guernica, The Baffler, The New Republic, and The Boston Globe. When he’s not writing or teaching, Asim performs with the Wiretap Records punk band Baby Got Back Talk, which was recognized by Alternative Press as one of the “17 Rising Black Alternative Bands Who Are Leading the Next Generation.”
