Biography

Jessica Fong is a Latina and native Spanish speaker who is deeply rooted in the environmental education community of Chicago as well as nationally. Jessica’s teaching journey began in her native Guatemala in 2007, and after returning to Chicago, she became deeply committed to nature-based learning. Jessica taught at Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and is currently the Director of Education for Openlands.

Jessica is the president of the City of Chicago Native and Pollinator Garden Registry Board and serves as a Board Member for NeighborSpace, a nonprofit urban land trust in Chicago. Jessica holds two master’s degrees and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Sustainability at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
