Joye M. Carter
Biography
Dr. Joye Carter, M.D. was the first female and African American to be selected as a Chief Medical Examiner in the United States. Dr. Carter holds the distinction of having served as Chief Medical Examiner for Washington, DC and Houston (Harris County), Texas, as well as the first black medical examiner in the entire state of Texas. This takes on even more importance when you look at how high the number of people killed by the government under capital punishment in Texas is.
Dr. Carter resides in Houston, Texas now and is a forensic pathology consultant and author.
