Captian Bill Pinkney was born in Chicago’s Bronzeville community he is a US Navy veteran with eight years of service as a Hospital Corpsman. His love for the sea started at an early age. In 1986 he became a US Coast Guard licensed Master of Steam, Power and Sail vessels. He has also been a high steel mechanic (Otis Elevator Puerto Rico), Radiologic Technologist, Corporate executive (Revlon and Johnson Products Co.), Motion Picture Make-Artist LOCAL #15 NABET, Public Information Officer (City of Chicago) and Motivational/Inspirational Speaker.
Pinkney is a Radio Amateur (HAM) WP4QWP and the use of the radio during 'the voyage' added an additional audience. Host of the radio show “The Maritime Scene” for two years on WLIS in Middletown, Connecticut. He continued to sail and speak from his home in Fajardo, Puerto Rico until his passing August 31, 2023
