Biography

Dr. Lynnette Mawhinney is a first-time children’s book author and an award-winning academic scholar. Dr. Mawhinney is also a professor, teacher educator, and cultural anthropologist dedicated to ensuring more teachers of color enter the workforce to uplift K-12 students of color. Her teaching, writing, and volunteer experiences have extended to three continents and shape her worldview on writing children’s books through the lens of race, class, gender, and religion. Dr. Mawhinney is associate professor and chair of the Department of Urban Education at Rutgers University-Newark, where she is also affiliated faculty in the Department of African American and African Studies.
