Scoop Jackson

Robert “Scoop” Jackson (born November 23, 1963) is an author, sports columnist, storyteller, and curator based in the Chicago area whose work explores the connections between sports, culture, and politics. A columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, he is the author of The Game Is Not a Game: The Power, Protest and Politics of American Sports, published by Haymarket Books.

His collaborations include Birth of a Culture with Grandmaster Flash, published by Amistad; The Poohprint with Derrick Rose, published by Assouline; and Ice: The Autobiography of George Gervin, published by Triumph Books. Across his journalism and books, Jackson examines the people and experiences that shape sports and popular culture.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and a master’s degree in Human Communications Studies from Howard University.
