Sharyn Skeeter is a novelist, poet, editor, and educator. She was fiction/poetry/book review editor at Essence and editor in chief at Black Elegance magazine.

Dancing with Langston (Green Writers Press), Sharyn Skeeter’s debut novel, won the Foreword Reviews INDIES Gold Award in Multicultural Fiction (2019). She edited the anthology What’s Next?: Short Fiction in Time of Change (Green Writers Press, February 2023).

Her poetry is in these anthologies: Our Black Sons Matter (George Yancy, ed.), The Second Word Thursdays (Bright Hill Press), In Search of Color Everywhere (E. Ethelbert Miller, ed.), and Keeping the Faith: Writings by Contemporary Black American Women (Pat Crutchfield Exum, ed.).

Her fiction, poetry, and other writings are in these journals and magazines: Chicago Quarterly Review, Hypertext, Monkeybicycle, Hawaii Pacific Review, Fiction, Obsidian, Poet Lore, Black Enterprise, Re-Markings, Callaloo, Essence, Connecticut River Review, Pearl Magazine, and others.

She’s taught at Emerson College, University of Bridgeport, Fairfield University, and Gateway and Three Rivers community colleges. She participated in panel discussions and readings at universities in India and Singapore.

Sharyn Skeeter lives in Seattle where she’s a board member at Hugo House and Earth Creative, and she’s a former trustee at ACT Theatre.
