“You can’t cling to the past because you’re afraid of the future.” To Begin encourages women to connect with the beauty, spiritual significance, and personal meaning within their heartbreaks.

After surviving an abusive relationship and navigating another relationship altered by her partner’s tragic skydiving accident, Sakina understands how to thrive in the aftermath of pain. She has redirected her experiences toward healing, self-love, and building a deeper relationship with God—what she calls “Black girl magic.”

“Black girl magic” refers to the ability of Black women to rise despite the twists, turns, and systemic barriers placed before them.

To Begin is not a love story, but a self-discovery journey meant to inspire others to move toward new beginnings, even in the face of fear.
