Breaking The Blank

With a clean sheet of paper and writing instrument, sometimes the thoughts of what to write draw a blank. Where should you start? Should you pen a few words about your kids or the fun you had when your town was called “Chocolate City”? There’s such a variety of topics to choose and it doesn’t matter where you begin.

Breaking the Blank is the dialogue between poets—and a meditation on love, parenting, gentrification, money, and literary life. In accessible free verse, haiku, sonnets, and other forms, the synergy of these poems honor the African American experience and remind the reader of the marvelous in the everyday. They make penning their thoughts look seamlessly easy as these are a snippet of their daily thoughts simply put paper.
