Picturing Prince An Intimate Portrait
by Steve ParkeCassell (Sep 05, 2012)
Read Detailed Book Description
Picturing Prince sees the late icon’s former art director, Steve Parke, revealing stunning intimate photographs of the singer from his time working at Paisley Park. At least half of the images in the book are exclusively published here for the first time; most other images in the book are rare to the public eye.
This edition also includes 16 pages of lost photographs, all of which have recently been uncovered by the author from within his extensive archive.
Alongside these remarkable images are fifty engaging, poignant, and often funny written vignettes by Parke, which reveal the very human man behind the reclusive superstar: from shooting hoops to renting out movie theatres at 4 a.m.; from midnight requests for camels to meaningful conversations that shed light on Prince as both a man and an artist.
Yesterday, Tomorrow: Voices From The Somali Diaspora (Literature, Culture, And Identity)
by Nuruddin FarahCassell (Mar 01, 2000)
Read Detailed Book Description
The story of the international refugees created by the political tyranny of post-colonial Somalia. The author, an established Somali novelist who went into exile as a form of protest, has interviewed Somalis in Africa and Europe to provide this portrait of how people react, are wounded, how they survive, change and even thrive when they flee their homes and are turned into refugees. It shows how the refugees see themselves and how the host countries treat refugees. It reveals how refugees have adapted, or failed to adapt, to different countries and how their lives became disrupted and recreated as a result of politics and economics. Although it focuses on a particular people, the work should help readers to understand the experiences of people forced by mass migrations to live fragmented lives in the post-modern era of rapid change.
