Biography of Crystal Hubbard

Crystal Hubbard’s writing career began as a newspaper reporter in Boston, before transitioning to a role as a sports copy editor at the Boston Herald. She eventually left the Herald to pursue a career as an author. Her first romance novel and first picture book manuscripts were contracted simultaneously, both released in the same year, and each earning nominations for an NAACP Image Award.

Her debut picture book, Catching the Moon: The Story of a Young Girl's Baseball Dream, is an Amazon Teacher's Pick. Academy Award-winning actor and director Kevin Costner selected the book to read aloud for Storyline Online, where the video has garnered more than five million views. Additionally, the Children's Theater of Charlotte produced a musical inspired by Catching the Moon.

After publishing twelve romance novels, she made the decision to focus exclusively on writing children's books. Her picture books have received numerous accolades, including the American Library Association's Amelia Bloomer Project Award, Bank Street College of Education's Best Children's Books of the Year, Florida State Award Masterlist, Smithsonian's Notable Children's Books, Storytelling World Awards, the Evelyn Thurman Young Readers Book Award, and the inaugural Black KidLit Award.

Her bibliography spans a wide range of genres and audiences, encompassing numerous educational texts, five Young Adult novels, three middle grade books, three adult novellas, and one anthology of "chiller thriller" tales. Most recently, she has contributed to Penguin Random House's Who Is/Was series.
