Earl Conrad
Biography
Earl Conrad (December 17, 1906 – January 17, 1986) wrote about the African American experience and race relations (his birth name was Cohen)> His books incuded biographies of Harriet Tubman, Dorothy Dandridge, and Haywood Patterson (one of the Scottsboro Boys). He also wrote a fantasy novel about an African American nation being carved out of the American South, a country in the shape of Africa.
Early in his professional career he served as the Harlem bureau chief for the Chicago Defender newspaper.
