Gwendolyn B. Bennett was an American artist, writer, and journalist who contributed to Opportunity, which chronicled cultural advancements during the Harlem Renaissance. She was born on July 8, 1902 in Giddings, TX

She earned a degrees from Pratt Institute, Columbia University. Her most productive years as a writers were from 1923 to 1928. One of her most popular poems was “To Usward.” Her short story, “The Wedding,” appeared in Wallace Thurman’s, Fire!! Bennett passed on May 30, 1981 in West Reading, PA
