Biography of Leah Schanke
Leah Schanke is a children’s book author whose multicultural heritage and interest in US history inspire her to write historical fiction and nonfiction books. Leah is passionate about sharing stories of little-known but significant figures and events. Leah’s debut picture book, Freedom at Dawn, illustrated by Oboh Moses, launches in April 2025 with Albert Whitman & Co.
When she is not writing, Leah is passionate about cooking, baking, and paper crafts, especially origami. She is a member of the Authors Guild and a PAL member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators). Leah has received recognition for her picture book stories from 12x12 Picture Book Challenge, PBParty, and PB Rising Stars.
