Biography of Monique James-Duncan
Monique James-Duncan is a wife, mother, author, and lover of adventure. She lives in Brooklyn, NY, with her family. Her debut book, Mommy Time, received a starred review from School Library Journal. Monique holds a BA in Business Management from Golden Gate University and is passionate about creating literature that provides representation and mirrors for children, inspired by her desire for her two spirited children to feel seen.
Born in Britain, Monique moved with her parents to the Caribbean island of Dominica at the age of two, where English and French Creole are spoken. Growing up, she traveled extensively with her family and enjoyed cherished times on her maternal grandparents’ farm in Barbados. Her journey has also taken her to live in Toronto, New York, Atlanta, and San Francisco, discovering something to love in every city.
Her love of travel led her to explore Asia on a backpacking trip from Thailand to India, trek through South America, and discover the beauty of Europe. While she calls New York her home, she spends her summers in Barbados and Dominica with her children, sharing the island life she loves.
