Biography

Born in South Carolina to a Marine and martial artist father, and raised in South Memphis by a mother who dedicated more than 40 years to social work and property management, Shandon D. Allen is an African American author, poet, and true modern Renaissance man. Deeply connected to his African and Native American ancestry, his journey with the written word began in junior high school journals and grew into a lifelong passion that followed him through college. His earliest poetry was inspired by a young boy writing notes to girls, eventually finding a creative home in the soulful spirit of Love Jones. He carried that rhythm to the stage as a spoken word slam competitor, even weaving his verses into commercials and wearable art T-shirts while fearlessly exploring the mature landscapes of romance and eroticism.

His creative spirit, however, knows no bounds. On screen, he has worked as an actor and extra in productions including The People vs. Larry Flynt and Going to California, and has appeared as a runway and print model. A lifelong martial artist with more than 45 years of training, Shandon followed in his father's footsteps, spending over two decades teaching the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira under the guidance of Mestre Cesar Carneiro of Nação Capoeira. His cultural performances and theatrical productions have captivated audiences at universities and nonprofit organizations, and he has taught master classes for schools, small dance companies, and the Tennessee Association of Dance.

This dynamic physical energy is balanced by an analytical mind. Professionally, Shandon works in information technology and finance as a financial advisor. A polyglot who speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and fragments of several other languages, he is an enthusiastic student of global culture, history, and cuisine. He is also an avid gamer who enjoys unwinding with the PlayStation and a passionate home chef who delights in preparing a wide variety of international dishes. When he isn't on the move, he reconnects with nature through gardening, permaculture, and a lifelong commitment to personal growth.

Now a devoted husband and father, Shandon's latest creative chapter brings his journey full circle. Wanting to create a lasting legacy for his young children, he authored a children's book inspired by his family's adventures as enthusiastic eaters—a project rooted in his lifelong love of food and culture. Written as a living love letter to his children, the book preserves treasured family memories while encouraging curiosity, courage, and togetherness around the dinner table. Today, you'll often find him working on his next writing project or enjoying a quiet meditation session with a fresh cup of tea brewed in his trusty dragon tea kettle.
