Tre’vell Anderson
Biography
Tre’vell Anderson (they/them) is an award-winning journalist, podcast host, and author whose work explores culture, identity, and social change. They are the founder and Chief Imagination Officer of Slayzhon and the author of We See Each Other: A Black, Trans Journey Through TV and Film and co-author of the NAACP Image Award-winning Historically Black Phrases. Tre’vell also serves as Executive Director of the Trans Journalists Association.
Named to Out magazine’s 2023 list of the 100 most impactful LGBTQ+ people and The Root’s 2020 list of the 100 most influential African Americans, Tre’vell has built a career centering people at the margins and intersections of life. They previously hosted the award-winning podcasts FANTI and What A Day, and have produced several limited podcast series under Slayzhon.
Tre’vell began their journalism career at the Los Angeles Times, where they created the diversity-in-Hollywood beat focused on Black and queer film. Their work has appeared in Essence, TIME, and Entertainment Weekly, and has earned honors from the National Association of Black Journalists, the Online News Association, and NLGJA.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Tre’vell earned a sociology degree from Morehouse College and a master’s in journalism from Stanford University. They are a frequent commentator whose appearances include Good Morning America, MSNBC, NPR, and the Netflix documentary Disclosure.
