Howard Dodson is one of America’s leading scholars and lecturers on African-American history and culture. He has served as the director of the prestigious Schomburg Center from 1984 until 2011, and his many awards include the ASALH Service Award, 1976; Chairman’s Award, Black and Puerto Rican Caucus; Governor’s Award for African-Americans of Distinction, 1982; and an honorary degree from Widener College in 1987.
