FOCH consist of local people from various professions who share a love of mysteries. FOCH organizes the annual Chester Himes Black Mystery Writers Conference and Awards Program. The conference is a day-long event to recognize black mystery writers, promote literacy among teens via a mystery writing contest for high school students, encourage the reading of the black mystery novel, and award one outstanding published mystery writer. Meetings are monthly. The Friends of Chester Himes in a non-profit organization.
